Still got that type of news in Germany. Except the guy in a suit is sometimes replaced by a woman in a blazer. Daily programme called “Tagesschau” is still the most watched show in german television.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you ever reminisce about an old phone you had in the past?
2·2 months agoSony Xperia Z5 compact My previos phones couldn’t compete with its quality overall. Last really compact phone I owned. Feels like peak smartphone to me, but certainly a lot of nostalgia.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were the stalemate-breaking tactics at the end of WW1?
8·2 months agoCan’t comment on tactics, but that diagram is not german. Based on the special characters I’d guess something scandinavian.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most intriguing part of your work?
21·7 months agoThe process of in many cases slowly but methodically figuring out the solution for a problem. I work in R&D for electronics. I have to do a lot of paperwork, but sometimes I get to dig deep into the technical stuff. Recently we had an issue with one of our products. Line stop, management meeting, everybody loosing their mind. Got me some long days, but man, putting everything else aside and just running experiments to find the issue was a blast.

Games@lemmy.world•What are your hallmark games? What games have shaped how you view games?English
5·7 months agoWhen I was younger, my friends used to play the usual shooters and competitive titles. I never enjoyed that. What got me more into gaming was the original Life is Strange. The game has its weaknesses, but at the time I just connected with the characters and felt emotions I didn’t expect to feel in a video game. Still love this kind of story driven and (somewhat) decision based games. Another one is Detroit become human. Still need to find something that matches the impact the player’s decisions have in that game.

What is this thing?@lemmy.world•Device loosely hanging on my main water line in basementEnglish
41·1 year agoAdding to what other’s already said: The device has a FCC ID, so we know this is some kind of radio device. FCC provides a database where you can search for FCC IDs and download some of the documents the device manufacturer had to provide to the authirty during the approval process: https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid The entry for the FCC ID from your device shows, that this is an “Autmatic Meter Reading module for a utility water meter” from Itron. So, this device most likely periodically reads your current water consumption from the water meter and sends it via radio to your water utility for billing purposes. If you want further technical details, check the database I linked above. You can find a user manual and even some test reports there.
Yeah, that’s true. Some pieces also feel pretty one-sided to me. However, overall I still consider it to be a good news outlet.
