videos ain’t that the truth

My contribution is that PeerTube lacks variety in it’s ‘unimportant’ videos. It’s easy on monopolistic platforms to be able to search any given topic and be fed with whatever movie trailer, or obscure game footage you’ve suddenly been stricken with a thirst for.

It’s a self-sustaining problem, I suppose. My understanding is that PeerTube improves performance by distributing video streaming across instances that have frequently requested particular videos, and p2p streaming with concurrent viewers. Video streaming isn’t exactly an easy task on servers, and the solution requiring adoption doesn’t help.

Yeah, that’s true. Thinking about it more ‘just block them’ only really works if they aren’t most of the platform. I make most of my posts to encourage discussion, and I don’t see repost bots doing much to that end.

Censorship has many degrees to it, and your needs would be determined by your threat model. Once you are more aware of what you need, finding proper support should be easier. Otherwise you will wind up getting advice too extreme for your practical purposes.

I can only go off of what I’ve heard directly from Bethesda devs, who from what I’ve seen generally have the attitude of ''he is a great boss who has been given too much to handle as the studio got bigger." You’re probably referring to the ‘seagulling’ post which, afaik, was a 4chan post without a source.

From what I’ve heard, Bethesda and Obsidian have always been great places to work. I hope Microsoft isn’t ruining that for the devs. Hopefully the increasing union presence in Microsoft will bring worker interests back into consideration.

That makes sense, my comment was originally going to be something along the lines of a lack of foreplanning, or sustainable development, but I felt unequipped to comment on in in any depth given I have no experience. I feel like the factors you mentioned could have been avoided, if the United States served the best interests of it’s people.

Federated communities currently have the benefit of very little automated moderator activity, and being much smaller than communities on reddit. What you describe is just an unfortunate reality of communities that have grown too big for their moderation capacity. Another possibility is too little moderation, and both have their downsides. It really is a shame, though. If it helps at all, I believe you’ll be mostly free from those concerns here at the present, in my experience :)
