I read this blog post yesterday and it was insightful.

Seems like we could solve multiple problems in one go here…

I guess baby-steps… but this doesn’t completely align with the stated goal of removing them from the reach of a US company. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I know that the article says that these entities all vow to “keep data storage and processing within national or European borders”, but how are they achieving that at scale?

Does this movement also apply to the underlying cloud-infra too? I don’t see any related info on the infrastructure part of this being moved away from AWS, Azure or GCP.

Mainly interested in how these organisations are going to solve this problem, as I’ve been working to do something similar myself… and it’s hard to be completely independent of these hyperscalers.

Looks like the GitHub also has its location set to Russian Federation too. 👀

I sincerely hope my government doesn’t pass this up. Feels like we and the whole world would benefit from more cooperation, not less.

Almost like they have a vested interest in dissuading people from using a federated alternative to their own service. 🤔

I don’t know why, but I had a gut feeling this was going to be a deprecation announcement and that this was all a ploy to get everyone into 365.

I have become cynical. 😬
