What kills the prey when being constricted is cardiac arrest. It raises their blood pressure so much that the heart can’t beat properly.
Any animal (for the most part) that is large enough to resist this, and would therefore have to be strangled, is also much too large for the snake to eat. The most noticeable exception being other snakes. Though, boa constrictors don’t normally eat other snakes.
Constrictors do bite and they don’t kill by choking.
Choking would be if they obstructed the airway.
Constrictors squeeze their prey. It could die from suffocation or from any other problem that constriction might cause.

Constricting the neck is also a choke.
You don’t say “constrict me, daddy”
It’s only choking if you compress the airway, otherwise it’s strangulation. According to Jiu Jitsu people…
Whatever it is, OPs mom loved it last night
Chokes in jiu jitsu constrain the carotids to restrict blood flow to the brain. That’s why you can get unconscious in seconds instead of in minutes.
