  • What kills the prey when being constricted is cardiac arrest. It raises their blood pressure so much that the heart can’t beat properly.

    Any animal (for the most part) that is large enough to resist this, and would therefore have to be strangled, is also much too large for the snake to eat. The most noticeable exception being other snakes. Though, boa constrictors don’t normally eat other snakes.
