Not that I’m on dude’s side or anything, but:

Trusting our Government Issued™ scientists implicitly is how we got The Tuskegee Experiments, sometimes a little healthy skepticism isn’t a bad thing. Idk about this one but y’know “just trust me bro” honestly shouldn’t be our SOP on a daily basis.

You also shouldn’t trust your mechanic implicitly, they’ve (as a profession) been known to upsell on things you don’t need to get more of your money because they know you don’t know anything and they can get away with it.

That’s the neat thing, scientists from all around the globe are saying the same thing. No need to trust your gvmt.

It’s not don’t trust me bro lol. You are welcome to read the data yourself. The problem is you likely do not have the prerequisite knowledge to understand it.

May I remind you that I’m responding to:

You don’t need to become a scientist, just trust the good ones.

As a concept in particular. That is very much “trust me bro.”

I’m not sure what studies in particular say “you should trust ‘experts’ unquestioningly bro,” so I have a sneaking suspicion you’re referring to the thing I said I wasn’t talking about specifically EIGHT TIMES NOW. Sorry I had to get loud, but it seems nobody can hear around here.

Now, accepting that this vaccine was created in a joint effort by Jesus, Muhammed, and YHWH, OF COURSE it is unquestionable. HOWEVER: Everything ELSE in life, you can’t necessarily trust the experts LIKE YOU CAN ON THE HOLY ROMAN COVID VACCINE!! LOOK EVERYONE I’M SAYING IT’S THE BEST EVER, IT’S DELICIOUS I’M EATING ONE RIGHT NOW!!NN!!N

Hopefully I’ve signaled my unquestioning loyalty on THIS TOPIC well enough to make you realize other things exist? Have I bowed enough that we can have an actual conversation now?

Bro what the fuck are you talking about

I’ve only said it eight times already, will the ninth really make the difference? I’m sorry dude I just don’t think you have the capacity, if you can’t figure out “what the fuck I’m talking about” from the thirty comments I’ve left in this thread already then this is a lost cause, if you do end up deciphering the cryptex then get back to me ig, or don’t who cares.

Talking about pulling teeth. Dude you’re super annoying and seem to deliberately misunderstand comments. You’re right, it’s not ‘good SOP’ to blindly trust based on what a government is saying, but no one is stating that.

There is a point where the collective scientific community at large has consensus on a topic, with the ability to ignore a single government, entity, or political movement where it becomes believable. With the COVID vaccines we have passed that point by a very large margin.

But you keep banging on about how scientific (almost complete) consensus the same as some random idiot from the US government saying ‘trust me bro’. That’s a false equivalence and I think you know it.

Tenth time repeating myself gonna do it? Will you finally understand that I’m talking about the attitude of “just trusting people in general,” not specifically the best vaccine ever that was made by Christ himself which of course we all love and take one every day.

The fact that you’re physically incapable of divorcing the two concepts is frankly not my fault.

There is a point where the collective scientific community at large has consensus on a topic

Yes yes and scientists have never been collectively wrong about anything and “the science” has never changed based on new information, they’re always right even when they’re wrong.

You’re hopeless, just keep trusting, drive the cybertruck, take the oxycontin, lick the radium paintbrushes, you’ll be fine, trust me bro.

But it is! Do you trust the food you eat? Who knows what could happen… If you take any medications at all, you must trust in some part the whole supply chain. If you drive a car, especially a new model, you trust the designers, engineers, and QA to make something that won’t kill you. Do you fly? Do you enter your banking or financial info into any computer?

I’m not saying we should blindly trust anyone, especially not a single person, but we have to trust the experts at least some, in every field. And when those experts all basically agree… What else is there to do? Or society is built on trust.

            But it is

            For some.

Do you trust the food you eat?

No, it’s all full of microplastics and chemicals and Monsanto scientific horrors. I still have to eat, but I know it’s killing me slowly. You shouldn’t trust that any more than your scammy mechanic.

If you take any medications at all, you must trust in some part the whole supply chain.

Yeah medications never have unintended side effects that come out years later, and nobody has ever put potassium cyanide in Aspirin bottles, great example.

If you drive a car, especially a new model, you trust the designers, engineers, and QA to make something that won’t kill you

Yeah like a Tesla, huh? New as hell, burning people alive in crashes. Recalls happen all the time, and often don’t when they should, you’re sure there won’t be one for yours?

            Do you fly?

            Hell no.

Do you enter your banking or financial info into any computer?

Very limited, never stored, one device I don’t do anything sketchy on. Usually I just go to the bank, like, the building.

Even people who aren’t lying to you may be wrong, it can happen at any level of knowledge or expertise.

And just to remind you, I’m not talking about “vaccines,” I’m talking about “just trust me bro” w.r.t most things.

I think everyone should have a critical mind about anything that matters. I’m not comfortable blindly trusting things either, but… we can only do our best and can’t be an expert in everything. We have to trust to some extent.

Of course it can go wrong, if it couldn’t, we wouldn’t be using the word “trust.” That said, not getting a Tesla anytime soon…

But yes, I trust the medicine I buy to not have cyanide in it, I’m not going to run a lab to make sure it doesn’t. If I buy medicine I have to trust it, the alternative is insanity. Thank goodness for the tamper evident seals! “You mean the ones you can bypass in a way that’s undetectable?” Yes, of course they’re not perfect but… I still gotta trust it and the whole supply chain if I want my ibuprofen, and it’s better than nothing.

Point taken for the rest of your examples, sorry, not going point by point.

Last thing, I just wanna make it clear yeah there’s a difference in “just trust me bro” from one expert no matter who they are, and trusting widespread expert consensus (and that goes for anything, and yes I recognize consensus can be wrong too okay).

So… I am supposed to know not to trust the covid vaccine and also blind trust is good?

Is that what you mean by backwards?

Cause I said “I don’t necessarily think [skepticism] is the best course of action regarding this current topic which is the covid vaccine, but blindly trusting people regardless of expertise isn’t always the best thing to do.”

“Backwards” of that would be… y’know… trust everyone except this vaccine… so… ?

            Care to elaborate?

I trust my mechanic, because when he replaced a rusty section of my exhaust he used a stethoscope to check if his welds were airtight, I watched him do it.

I trust the scientists, because people watching them do the work is exactly what peer review and replication are.

The rest of the stuff they do, that I don’t understand, I will trust implicitly because of how open and honest the things I do understand were.

Then you verified that, you’re not just trusting that he did.

Sure you can trust these scientists, again that isn’t what I’m talking about.

The Tuskegee Experiments had more than one mad scientist in the room too, “just trust me bro” isn’t a good enough answer for anything, just trust me bro.

No my point is, I’m trusting him when I’m not watching too.

We can extrapolate from the existing body of work of these scientists, we demonstrably can trust them bro.

That experiment that started 90 years ago, running for 40 years, never underwent any contemporary peer review. The COVID vaccines have, with government reviews, dozens of outside parties having a look into the formulations, many papers speaking to the theoretical and I’m sure by now practical efficacy.

You can’t compare a region limited pre electric conspiracy to a contemporary information age alleged conspiracy, the circumstances and scale reduce any parallels to background noise.

No my point is, I’m trusting him when I’m not watching too.

Well good for you, but that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily actually trustworthy, without knowing either of you, you could be a total sucker and he could be a good conman. “While I was down there I noticed your struts…” Struts were fine, he noticed you wouldn’t question him saying they needed to be replaced.

We can extrapolate from the existing body of work of these scientists, we demonstrably can trust them bro.

Ok here’s something you can really trust me bro on, for the fourth or fifth time, I’m not talking specifically about The Holy Vaccine, I’m speaking of the concept of trusting bros as a whole.

Peer review existing at all is an example of not “trusting them bro” btw.

If you’re unable to discuss the topic of why or why not you should or should not “just trust” people regardless of expertise divorced from one specific thing, then I don’t think there’s a point to continuing this, we’ll have to agree to disagree not talk about the same thing. Your focus is so narrow, is The Covid Vaccine™ the only thing that exists to you or is reality larger?

So, at some point where he’s proved his methods of work, he’s going to be trusted.

The same is for basically any medical researcher. Why are individuals expected to make an informed assessment, when by any account the structure that has that researcher gain their position has them suffer the scrutiny of people that have a much better idea of what problems might be in that research, and a vested interest in picking apart that methodology? (Writing their own paper for school or getting published themselves)

I literally can’t do better than take the information I have access to and understand (my mechanic has spent time educating me, being transparent, and given me cost/benefit opinion; the medical researchers have gained degrees from credible orgs, peer review has not discredited the methodology, research is replicable etc)

I’m not going to go to trade school or medical school. Trusting them is happening, or I go live in a cabin in the woods. You trust people implicitly, your grocer, landlord, water supply, etc. There are thousands of ways that the people you rely on every day could maim or outright kill you. That doesn’t happen. Applying this level of mistrust to a shot you get every 6 months and not the things you imbibe and tolerate every day is not logically consistent.

                your grocer,

Is trying to rip me off the most they can, they’ve been caught doing shady shit in the past, they’re “my grocer” because they’re closest to my house.

                landlord,

I think you’re the only one on this entire fedi trusting landlords lmao. Nice to meet the one.

I can repeat myself a seventh time but honestly if it hasn’t sunk in yet I don’t think it’s going to.

But in any case “you don’t want a flu shot? Why don’t you quit eating then?”

                  your grocer,

They can poison your food, or sell substandard/filler/replacement goods, and you do not check

                  landlord,

They have keys to your house that you trust them to not use, and you might have an alarm system that makes this a moot point and you actually don’t trust them

                  water supply,

You don’t test your water, you trust that it’s within acceptable limits.

There is a level of trust that you do display. Is it because you don’t think about these things, and you actually would do those tests if you knew what and how to test for? You only I both know, you wouldn’t. You know that there are consequences for the grocery clerk, landlord, municipal worker for abusing their position, profession, etc.

I want you to tell me how the Pharma academics and industry are afforded any different level of trust to the engineering, agricultural, residential etc design and supply chains, the crux of my argument is that there is not a real difference.

They can poison your food, or sell substandard/filler/replacement goods, and you do not check

Exactly, mine was caught selling expired meat, like, replacing the date. Unfortunately, however, The Breatharians aren’t right, no matter how bad our food supply is we don’t only need sun on our assholes for sustenance (despite whether or not they claim to be experts themselves), we have to eat the poison. Or exclusively hunt, I guess, but that isn’t feasible at scale, sure I can but if we all do deer will be extinct within a year or five.

They have keys to your house that you trust them to not use, and you might have an alarm system that makes this a moot point and you actually don’t trust them

Tbf I own my house, no landlord. BUT before when I rented I never trusted them. “They have keys” that they use all the time, they own the place, I can only stop them insofar as they legally have to give notice, I can’t say “no” to that. Tbh idt you can legally install an alarm system in a place you don’t own without the owner’s consent either, but yeah, who the fuck trusts a landlord?! You’re crazy for that one.

You don’t test your water, you trust that it’s within acceptable limits

You assume I do, that has no bearing on whether or not I actually do. Divorce you from everyone else, wearenotthesame.jpg. The issue is if I don’t drink water every three days I’ll die, maybe I can make it to 7 before the kidneys fail and I seize to death but the damage is done. Since you cannot divorce the concept of trust and the covid vaccine, I’ve had covid multiple times and lived, like, at home chillin watching spongebob. But the time I was severely dehydrated with heat exhaustion I actually almost died and had to get IV liquids (not a Liquid IV™), so no “you trust the water bro” is neither true nor “good enough,” despite whether or not I have to drink water. Though now I’m gonna search and see if there’s a better test than pH I can run to see if there’s like lead or something like that, now that you mention it that probably exists.

There is a level of trust that you do display.

                    (X) to Doubt.

Is it because you don’t think about these things,

                    If so, yes.

and you actually would do those tests if you knew what and how to test for

*Dancesafe Elrich Test in my fridge* “Yeah.”

You know that there are consequences for the grocery clerk, landlord, municipal worker for abusing their position, profession, etc.

FUCKING LOL! Yeah if they get caught haha. And even then, you “trust” the Law Enforcement “experts” in the US? “Consequences? Where’s that, New Mexico?” (That’s a better joke than you may get, I’m referencing Truth and Consequences, NM).

I want you to tell me how the Pharma academics and industry are afforded any different level of trust to the engineering, agricultural, residential etc design and supply chains, the crux of my argument is that there is

They’re no different. Does that make you happy? Good. Problem is you can’t trust ANY of those industries. Pharma? Really? The opioid epidemic who? JFC why would you trust the Sackler’s industry? “Academics” is too broad, I can’t sit here and pick apart literally every subject, I have the material but not the time, I have to work in the morning (at a place where I’m an expert and I’ve never made a mistake, trust me bro), Industry, yes, notoriously trustworthy, “yes radium is safe to lick, do you want your $0.13 an hour? Then shut the fuck up Mary.” Do I really have to continue?

Ffs my dude, know what? Yes. Just trust the experts, lick the radium, drive the cybertruck, take the oxycontin, you’ll be fine.
