If we’re socialized exclusively around people who share any charecteristic, then we will instinctively distrust people we meet later in life who don’t share that characteristic.
Critical thinking can override those prejudices, until we start to age and see the natural effects of aging into our 60s.
That’s why the only hominid left standing is homo sapiens and we have less genetic diversity than most endangered species.
That’s why we still latch on to surface level differences like coloration, even though the most genetically diverse place on the planet, is filled to the brim with Black people. And there’s more generic differation within “ethnic groups” than the averages between them.
The only way out of it, is raising kids in multicultural environments, or at least showing them multiple cultures on TV. Which is why the money behind the extreme right has always prioritized childrens education and media.
They want to raise a generation that sees skin color as “us/them” which is the result of “sperate but equal”.
America is a mixing pot, it only works when everyone’s in the same pot.
No, it’s because the human mind wants a hierarchy just like the mind of literally every social animal.
That’s why almost every civilization has had to deal with racism, religious persecution, or some other form of caste system.
We fight that by erasing the lines, not reducing and insulting the people on the other side of the line the oligarchs drew.
That’s literally what they wanted when they drew the line, and why they drew it about something they didn’t care about.
Their happy to let us fight, because they don’t care who wins.
If we’re gonna win, we need to draw our own singular line where we know we have the numbers to win: fighting wealth inequality.
And that has to be done with zero means testing. If something is a human right, we all get it and not even Bill Gates should have to pay for it.
Racism was invented post american slavery as an excuse to why these people are somehow worth less than the people who owned them.
Prior to that, it was typically stuff like “the Germankc tribes must be erradicated” or the classic poor vs rich dynamic we’re circling back to now
Do people legitimately believe that shit now?
I remember when it was an obvious over exaggeration like “birds aren’t real”…
Racism was more true to the word when they trumpeted black people as being a different species.
It’s literally baked into our DNA…
