My community decided to remove seating downtown to detour homeless people from loitering. I lobbied against this and countered by developing a homeless plan with our local task force. The business owners didn’t want to solve the problem of homelessness. They wanted them gone. I was the problem for trying to solve the homeless problem.
This exact issue has played out countless times across the country. This is because there are a lot of people that view homelessness as a form of punishment or just deserts if you will. You can’t fix homelessness because it is a natural result of the system and to upend this system is wrong. These people are the problem, they are preventing positive change.
