Whistler was def worse than Banff as far as lines and the that touristy aspect. We stay in Canmore and drive in each day. Had a bit of a powder day at Sunshine last year, and the year before that it was -40° actual temp, so people were not out in force. I don’t generally partake in the mountain amenities, I’m just there make tracks. I do think that Sunshine and the drive in from Canmore is top three prettiest settings I’ve experienced. The Colorado rockies are awe inspiring too, and it’s different since the peaks are 13k+ feet (don’t know that in meters), but I like the Canadian rockies. Lake Louis is gorgeous too, but I think I like Sunshine more.
The other problem with going to places like Revy is that it’s a lot more driving, often times in dicey weather on mountain roads, and just more expensive to get to. Some day though. Some day.
Haha hate to say but I think canmore sucks now too. I lived there when it was a normal town in 2014 and saw it change into the resort town it is today
Rossland and the kootenays are truly are hidden gem
And driving? No different to your mountains. Easier in the winter to me. No tourists, just the new Canadian truck drivers from Surrey you need to be wary of.
Not skiing but go to halfway hot springs in the winter. People pay thousands to go to Iceland for an inferior experience to that.
I don’t generally have much issue driving in bad weather. I’ve been in it about as bad as it gets, but it’s not as ideal when driving an unfamiliar rental. That and with passengers that don’t cope well with those conditions, it just adds another level of ass. In my car by myself, I’ll drive through anything short of snow that I can’t physically get through, but I’ve tried.
I don’t live in the mountains, so we used to drive about 15 hours to get there coming from the East, now we fly. One year Colorado closed the interstate because of heavy snow, so I got to drive a couple of hours out of the way for a different way in. Semi truck drivers don’t give a fuck about anyone else on the road, and that was the scariest part. That and some idiot literally stopped on the hwy, at night, and didn’t have their hazards on. They just about became my hood ornament. If it weren’t for other drivers, it would be a lot better.
