I witnessed this in the 90s and 2000s. AFAIK, it started in rave culture. People would lace their fingers around glow sticks and wave them in front of a friend’s face. I was told that the effect is really cool if your rolling on MDMA. However, I also saw Mormon kids doing it stone sober, because they’re always imitating things they see without understanding the drug component (e.g. a Mormon kid at a local high school who wore a pacifier on a necklace – an MDMA raver accessory to give something to chew on – despite zero awareness of drugs).
Personally, I think these photos are a combination of raver culture seeping into the mainstream, along with a trend of “reversing subject and photographer”.
I liked MDMA with their crossover with dimethylphenethylamine. Their crossover with diacetylmorphine kind of left me yawning yet strangely craving for more.
I guess that’s the sound of huffing duster, I can’t remember the weird thing that always happened on dxm cos it’s been a while but yeah, I have abused the shit out of my body. Much, much less now though cos I can’t physically handle come downs anymore.
Things rapidly get larger then smaller, back and forth. For me, my vision would also sometimes do this thing where I’d have both eyes open, but it would look like I was winking one, then the other, back and forth really fast.
I also liked how even a little dxm would enhance weed like crazy.
It got to where I couldn’t keep any liquid dxm down at all and I hated polystirex so robitussin in the blue bottle was the only thing that worked for me. Eventually I got tired of swallowing entire bottles of big, dry pills so I retired from it permanently.
MDMA and DXM is my guess

I love those bands.
So sad we lost DXM during covid. I know he was problematic but he was trying to reform and his music touched many lives

My friends and I called it “the whammy bar band”
Because we were stupid and high

You’re not exactly right but you’re not far off in my case. I have one of those photos
It’s like if you move your face between your hands you cross into a different dimension. Drugs are so silly sometimes
