It would be great if the medical system had a way to see trends in data, if heading toward metabolic issues, chronic inflammation, before diabetes, types 2 and 3! Ahh, but fasting insulin and crp tests are cheap, don’t make much money for the system to prevent issues early, with lifestyle changes and not need treatments!
"Insulin resistance develops 10–20 years before fasting glucose or HbA1c cross into the prediabetic range. During that window, the pancreas compensates by pumping out progressively more insulin to keep glucose “normal”, which is what those markers capture.
HOMA-IR is the primary equation used to assess insulin resistance, calculated as (Fasting Insulin × Fasting Glucose) / 405, with values >2.0 indicate significant resistance and >2.9 metabolic syndrome. Triglyceride/HDL ratio is another marker for insulin resistance, with a target of <1.0 and high-risk values exceeding 3.0.
Fasting insulin levels are independently associated with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), a marker of systemic inflammation; higher fasting insulin predicts elevated CRP.
A nasty mechanism, the enzyme IDE (insulin-degrading enzyme) clears both insulin and Aβ. When hyperinsulinemia (from gut-driven peripheral IR) floods the system, IDE gets occupied by excess insulin and can’t clear Aβ as efficiently, plaques accumulate "*

I can’t help but think all the tangentially positive stuff coming out about Ozempic is just marketing.
Being obese is just really fucking destructive to the body, so a drug that helps with that will have a lot of positive effects.
I mean it’s an absurdly good medicine, and the first time we’ve had a harmless way to prevent overeating, which causes incalculable misery.
Someone described it as turning off “food noise,” so you’re not constantly hungry. Now we need a way to put exercise in a pill.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head… how much of these “benefits” are just natural outcomes from losing weight? When the body isn’t fighting all the extra weight, it can naturally heal itself more efficiently.
There’s no reason we can’t do the muscle twitch machine from the matrix
Chili pepper mint nose spray
How about some fucking self control.
Not everyone’s brain works like yours does. How about you try being less of a callous dick?
Clearly doesn’t work.
Neurological issues can’t be helped. Like ADHD I could do some things that sucked all day every day, but checking the mail? Nah. Mowing the lawn, why? Like I have to do laundry for societal reasons. But I needed help to do the boring day to day shit that keeps you a “functioning member of society”.
A lot of people have self control in one way but not another. For me, I became diabetic because my ADHD is like “meh, you’re not hungry, no need to eat.” Then I’d get lightheaded and “oh shit, I need to eat or I’ll die, put quick calories in me NOW” causing my blood sugar to spike, then it’d normalize, then drop too far before I spiked it again. I never got fat, so in your mind I had self control when I really didn’t. After research, meds and some talk with the doctor my diabetes is under control, and I’m eating healthier because berries are just as easy a snack as say a pretzel snack pack, or easier than ramen.
I’m betting there’s some part of your life where you’re not in control, so don’t be so quick to judge on someone else’s struggle.
Ozempic has reduced the amount of manipulative marketing you see, too, and also your favorite dead childhood pet is somehow alive again and waiting at your back door thanks to Ozempic!
Is Ozempic what caused the Pet Sematery?
It is in the new A24 2027 reboot
Fyi the patent on GLP-1 has expired and there’s GLP-1 meds other than ozempic and wegovy rn
The stuff about it helping with various addiction situations is real. But I don’t suspect it’s a good idea to use it off label for that. Just that it’s one of the many side effects.
I feel the same but then again I did about statins and eye surgery.
I know this might be unrelated, so just a guess, but would people who are doing weekly injections, maybe bi-weekly or daily, also be more prone to take the flu shot and generally be medically more active, due to their inclination of trying to improve their weight/sugar levels using a medical injection. The article also mentions that this only proves correlation and not causation, which is hats off to gizmodo, but can be interesting if causation is proven in a future study
The big question here is whether GLP-1 is the cause or not being obese.
My neighbor believes it helps her ADHD and quit taking those meds.
That’s weird I feel more ADHD than ever.
I switched off vyvanse to Adderall because vyvanse was mostly for BED and wegovy is kicking BEDs ass. Adderall used to be much better for focus/concentration/prioritization/organization/etceteration. But now? I don’t think it’s working.
She had a really bad blood sugar episode and ended up in icu and she started ozempic a little after that. Said her sugar is more level than it’s ever been and her brain too. Think those are probably more related than she realized.
I think a lot of people think they have ADHD when they really have roller coaster blood sugar or very high A1C.
And I’ve come to believe this based on lived experience. I now think a small percentage of the uptick we have seen over the last few decades of people believing they have ADHD, or getting diagnosed with it, is due to this.
People should probally be screened for metabolic issues when they are being assessed. Especially if they are coming to it as an adult.
