I don’t know, this looks like a toilet paper shortage, which was caused by COVID paranoia. I don’t think that was either Capitalist or Socialist.

The toilet paper shortage was absolutely the fault of capitalism. The minimizing of supply chains due to just in time shipping practices as well as inflexibility due to over-specialization between household and commercial supply exacerbated the temporary shortage due to panic into a long term drought.

A healthy conspiracist might notice that these memes got disseminated like mad during COVID, lest the masses get socialism-curious.

COVID should have provided the basis for the biggest labour movement in history. Instead the biggest protest in Australian history was not in aid of higher pay, extending guaranteed sick leave, more essential services, expanding healthcare and socialising all medicine, or even stopping climate change; it was in aid of ending lockdowns.

My mum ended up on a ventilator after getting covid and not taking it seriously because she was brainwashed by my antivaxx sisters. She kept refusing the ventilator until she was actually suffocating. Then my oldest sister actually tried to persuade my dad to have the doctors take my mum off the ventilator because it’s all a big conspiracy.

She has a master’s in microbiology (or biochemistry, I forget which). There is no depth that stupidity can’t reach with some people. She also doesn’t believe in soap.

Nobody with a grad degree in microbiology or biochemistry could possibly both earn that degree legitimately and still not believe germ theory and basic preventive measures to spreading infections and diseases, like washing your hands with soap.

She must be a stinky motherfucker to not use soap in the shower. Does she also not use soap on her dirty dishes? How about laundry? The carwash? The effectiveness of soap is like fucking BIO101. Inexcusable. Tell her that this stranger on the internet says she’s a fucking moron who needs to set her degree on fire and go apologize to the nearest tree for wasting so much oxygen on her stupid fucking excuse for a brain. Goddamn, I hate people.

She wasn’t antivaxx back then, she got her master’s around 2002. I’ve forgotten the name, but it was the same university Louise Woodward (?) went to. So I can look it up. Okay, it was Southbank.

During lockdown, her kids had to stay with us while they took their youngest to A&E, and her other daughter said she can’t use soap after using the toilet because “mum says I’m allergic”. I said you are not, if your skin is sensitive, then you can use the baby shower gel. And I made her go down and wash her hands with soap and then I had to disinfectant wipe all the door handles.

No, I won’t tell my sister that because I don’t talk to her.

The rampant usage of the misinformation machines in everyone’s pockets and a blatant lack of a basic understanding of statistics.

Oh and a healthy dose survivors bias.

Feels nicer to believe it’s all because of some nefarious pranksters than accept nature is random and cruel and viruses really can arise at any time and just tear down your world. If it’s all fake, there’s a tangible enemy and someone to blame.

I used to live in Florida. You could make this meme every year with water, gas, batteries, and most food products.

None of it ever mattered. I knew COVID wouldn’t be a wake up call.

Still don’t understand why toilet paper went out of stock but hand sanitiser, masks, cleaning equipment, shelf stable food didn’t
