I never thought about it this way and I am glad I was able to read your elaboration. In my narrow minded head, I categorized tankies, marx, lenin, communism as left wing extremism, while it is actually the opposite.
So right wingers fighting communism is basically a right vs right situation, where both want to achieve powers in a non-democratic way? Ok my brain hurts now and I need to think about it for a while.
There’s a reason it’s usually explained entry multiple dimensions, left/right ideals and then authoritarian/libertarian (as in liberty, not the contemporary nonsense associated)
And separation of social and economic beliefs is common too.
But practically speaking, the authoritarian scale is the single most predictive belief measurement. All those authoritarian extremists share many more real beliefs with each other than with other non-authoritarian types, just with different flavors. It’s where the horseshoe theory come from.
