Conservatives. Are, and always have been, the problem.
I mean Warp Drive literally rips apart the fabric of space causing gravitational instability, and the best the Federation could do was “hey guys, keep it below Warp 5 around settlements, kay?”
Then they told the Klingons and Vulcans who agreed. Then they told the Romulans and Cardassians who nodded but ignored it.
And then the episode abruptly ended, and Warp Drive driven climate change was never talked of again
Mind you, they immediately went and developed less harmful versions of warp drive; both Voyager and the Defiant are known to do better in this regard. There was less than a year between warp drive being found harmful and the Defiant getting pressed into service. Voyager launched a few months later.
Getting subspace-friendly warp drives into ships must’ve been an extremely high priority for them to retool at least two ship classes late during development.
(Also, it was mentioned a few times again, even if only barely. TNG mentioned it a couple times in the same season and VOY mentioned it once. Not much but something.)

Can you please define “whataboutism”, using that context as reference? Cause I’m confused
I guess my messaging is, even with a progressive post-scarcity egalitarian society like Star Trek, they can still ruin entire ecosystems, and solve it with a less than appropriate stopgap solution (“stay under Warp 5”).
Though it’s pointed out in the other comments that they did indeed strive to fix the problem quickly, and it was fixed by the time of Voyager’s creation
Didn’t they default to slower speeds the rest of the series and only increased during emergencies? It’s been a while, but I seem to remember it actually spanning many episodes, even if they didn’t harp on it. Pretty good for an episodic series, really.
Voyager’s nacelles folded up and down to fix that.
It was just that simple all along. Gosh dangit, Trek writers are so smart.

So that’s what the de-con chamber in Enterprise was for. Silly me, I thought it meant decontamination.
Everyone knows that suggestively rubbing gel on yourself while bathed in UV light kills conservatism.
The difficulty is that if you become too conservative on an away mission, you will refuse to de-con afterwards. The unfortunate but only working and thus standard response to this is to simply abandon such crew members on the planet.

I think introducing conservatives to an alien ecosystem is against the Prime Directive. Better to yeet them into the nearest ion storm without a space suit.

Geordi can also alter computer records to retroactively assign said crewmate to Security, which cuts down on quetions.
