77% of new grads believe businesses call for too much experience when hiring for entry-level jobs, shutting them out of an increasingly competitive market.
“Entry level” jobs have been “Degree + 2-3 years experience” since I graduated college and it’s only gotten worse in the past 25 years.
part of me feels lucky that i graduated when i did since there was a big enough labor shortage during the dotcom bubble burst years to give me a chance despite not even having a degree in the field.
the graduates i work with today are so much more capable than i was at their age, yet have so little prospects; i feel sorry for them and i’m SO GLAD i didn’t bring another person into this world to experience this misery.
