I had a similar experience with steaks and pork chops growing up. My dad liked his steaks well done.
I’ve cooked some steaks with the understanding that they can be better and they were, especially the one that I accidentally cooked perfectly. That said, I still don’t get the hype steaks can get. Yes, it’s better when cooked perfectly medium rare, but still not even close to a good curry or a perfectly cooked piece of breaded chicken (if you’re thinking like the frozen stuff, you should try eating at a restaurant that makes its own chicken wings or strips, holy fuck is there a difference there, too). The perfectly cooked steak was even better when I put the 2nd piece in a sandwich.
Yeah, personal preference also. I think I rank beef below chicken, pork, and turkey, but above lamb in general, but specific dish can change that.
Though I was talking about steaks, maybe a better comparison would have been to say that I’d take a beef lo mein or a decent (beef or whatever) hamburger over a steak any day.
Sounds like you haven’t had decent quality meat, which makes sense if you don’t like it, because it’s generally more expensive, and why would you pay more for something you don’t like 😅
The point of a steak is you can actually taste the meat itself, as opposed to it being overpowered by the seasoning or sauce.
The best kind is when it’s just a piece of chicken with breading added to it. I’ve had schnitzel before but can’t say that I’m familiar with how the meat is prepared before the coating is added. Breaded chicken is usually drier on the outside than what I’m used to for schnitzel, but I don’t know if I’ve ever had high end schnitzel, which maybe is similar. It (the chicken) can be fried, deep fried, air fried, baked, or BBQ’d.
I’m not talking about the fast food or frozen version that is basically just chicken meat (and whatever else they add to the grinder) processed into a paste then moulded into whatever shape. It’s not bad tasting (chicken tendies are a meme for a reason) but nowhere near as good as a good moist piece of breaded chicken.
Lol I started writing this comment in one place, finishing it at a good chicken place.

It’s not that beef is better than chicken, it’s about variety… And how you’re feeling that day…

I’ve never had breaded chicken… It seems like it’s American version of chicken schnitzel just prepared slightly differently.
I absolutely love chicken schnitzel.

All good, I go on long messages on here and end up talking about four different things.
Thanks for the info on breaded chicken.
Schnitzel is absolutely delicious from Australian pubs with chips and gravy.
Or a chicken Parmy which is schnitzel with a slice of ham, a tomato sauce and some melted cheese on top.
