That’s one way of looking at it. I definitely disagree though. I absolutely agree time is quick and feels like it has only excelerated, and i havent just gone out without plans on a random night in forever, but I absolutely still love having plans to do things with friends like once a month if not every other month. Maybe it’s because i have 2 kids, but I really need that relaxing time away from all that every now and then and hanging out with some friends is always a good time still and keeps my head straight. It’s also nice to have something to look forward to.
Can definitely agree with the seeing people every month or maybe two. I used to have weekly hangouts and started to feel really annoyed. Maybe I just need new friends who are just closer to my energy level. I do worry that having kids will make me more reclusive, though. Did you notice a shift to spending more time alone after having kids?
Absolutely, not because I wanted to though. I kind of had to due to responsibilities. As they got older there is some leeway now so its a bit easier to get out, but I don’t push my luck either with the wife haha. I definitely have the urge to go out more, a lot of my friends are either still single or married and never want kids so they all get together way more. For me it probably is my friends that keep me coming back, we have all been friends since high school basically so were all comfortable and know each other well so its always a fun time. Beats 24/7 of kids all the time which is the alternative. Also since were kinda poor getting a babysitter is out of the question so even spending some time with the wife is limited sadly.
We setup a funny group just to make sure we get together every few months which helps and we each take turns picking a good pizza place and just get pizza. I used to love concerts in my 20’s so much i was going like once a week at my peak. Now i barely go once a year but I finally get to go to one in a few weeks. Finally we got a yearly weekend tradition where we rent a place and just hang out for 2 days and cant wait for that at the beginning of december. Thats about it for my year though, not to crazy.
The scary part is realizing you don’t actually miss being super social. Days end so quickly after work, who has time for anything more?
