Yes, something that is coming is typically not there yet.

Last year’s announcement trailer for Valve‘s new hardware mentioned that Steam Machine would be a great option for streaming games to Steam Frame. So it‘s pretty safe to assume that Linux support for streaming is coming.

Europe@feddit.org•German court rules that AI music firm violated copyrightsEnglish
71·2 months ago<Obligatory IANAL disclaimer>
Fair use in Germany (and the EU) isn‘t really a thing. There are a few special exceptions (mostly for satire and such), but generally these rules apply:
- If you cover a song (lyrics and melody stay the same), you have to get a license and share the money you make from it with the original author. You cannot be denied this license, but you have to get it before making money off of your cover version.
- If you rework a song (change lyrics or melody), you have to get explicit permission from the rights holder. In this case, they are allowed to deny you this license. There‘s a pretty famous legal battle running since 1999 (!) between musician Moses Pelham and the band Kraftwerk, because the former used a two-second sample from one of Kraftwerk‘s songs in his work. While a final decision in this matter is still pending, it shows how even very small snippets of music made by other artists might be subject to licensing fees and the need for explicit permissions in the EU.
As far as I can tell, there is no legal way for Suno to just use songs for their product without having a licensing agreement with the respective rights holders.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukrainian drones flew all the way to Siberia to strike Russia's largest oil refineryEnglish
82·3 months agoUkraine has developed very impressive drone technology in a very short time. It is expected that multiple nations will actually try to make deals to acquire Ukrainian drones at the current NATO summit because they are so good now. So Ukraine is no longer dependent on others to sell them drones. They‘re selling them now.
For example, these drones can use terrain as guidance, so GPS isn’t required for navigation. This also allows them to fly at a very low altitude, avoiding Russian air defense. They’re also very resistant to jamming and have advanced autonomous capabilities, so they can “finish the job” on their own if the link to their operator is severed. Also, they’re very cheap, so it’s possible to overwhelm Russian defenses by swarming them.
In summary, they‘ve developed incredible killing machines that are able to act autonomously, which is very good for them right now but probably not very good for humanity in the long run.

Linux@programming.dev•What's your favourite "just works, day after day" Linux software?English
20·3 months agoProton.
It allowed me to ditch Windows for good. Playing games on Linux, often with similar or even better performance than on Windows, was an insane idea ten or fifteen years ago. Nowadays it‘s rare to see a game not working on day one. And if it doesn‘t, Proton‘s devs oftentimes fix it within a day or two. It‘s an amazing piece of software with an amazing team behind it.

26·4 months agoIt‘s the default for Youtube, Netflix and most video conferencing software like Webex, if you‘re using somewhat up-to-date hardware. So I‘d say it‘s commonly used by now.

Linux@programming.dev•The same 732-byte Python script roots every Linux distribution shipped since 2017English
23·6 months agoIf your system is up-to-date, your kernel has probably already been patched. The patch was added to mainline on April 1, and I think every major distribution will have added it by now.

Man, I feel kinda sorry for that guy. He must have had terrible parents, if he perceives story time as a chore instead of an opportunity to bond with your child. He should probably get some professional help to work through his horrible childhood. Though his next tweet would probably be „I‘ve replaced my therapist with an AI and now I‘m even more confident that everyone else is wrong!“
