Thing is, Americans weren’t anywhere near as polarized as today. So republicans and democrats probably agreed on a lot of things even on the campaign trail. A vice president would be a president from the *opposite * party as a sign of cooperation.

People wouldn’t be pointing fingers at any party over this because odds are both parties wanted the war to happen for various reasons. It was simply “America’s war”.

But it’s part of why GOP congress is still spineless. A lot of their constituents still think Trump is doing a “good job”. Or at least that’s what they say out loud.

This isn’t nationals. There’s too many races here (every House seat and 33 Senate seats) for them to fight every progressive candidate. That’s why you occasionally see them give up and endorse a few progressives here and there.

Also, most of their work is done in the primaries. They tend to just accept the D candidate once that is done and over with. That’s what happened with Mamdmi. Mostly because that’s honestly more important than the real election, and also because they kind of have to to keep the ruse up.

We’ve seen quite a few time that Musk has ended up spoiling votes. Because he did quite a good job tanking his own rep with the DOGE BS last yeast.

We still seem to have a lot of “both sides are the same” mentality here, as if there aren’t shades of evil out there.

People who still think that after the past 19 months are either complicit with the destruction, severely uninformed (or lacking real perspective), or are letting perfect be the enemy of good. We can critisize (and we should) the DNC while also realizinig their vote is the quicket way to stop the further slide into fascism. If we can find a progressive or DSA or whatnot, even better. But not all races will have those.

1. They are pretty bad. The scarier thing is how partisan the approval is. It’s been something like 80% approval among republicans and that may have only very recently slipped into the 70’s
2. Yes, the last time it happened. 2018 happened (when he still had adults in the room to limit his crazier plans), the House was taken back, and he was impeached the first time over tariffs. Not convicted by Senate of course, but it at least sent a message

If we can slip both house and senate this time, the worst case will hopefully be to obstruct all his BS for 2 more years and leave him a lame duck. If we assume Novemeber goes smoothly (it won’t, but how bad it gets will depend on so many factors).

Wow. So Wikimedia is really just a small hedge fund that happens to run the servers for an encyclopedia on the side. I had a hunch they spent a lot more on other non-wikipedia stuff, but for hosting to cost almost 2% of what they invest is eye opening. And makes it all the more petty that they can’t pay their labor. Especially since so much labor is in fact volunteer work.
