Every reply to this is about brushing teeth but I’m more interested in “that guy who would shit in his hand in the bathroom and thought that was normal”
That’s crazy, I do floss, brush, then mouthwash. It just makes more sense to me : flossing is mechanically speaking the “rawest” operation, as in it frees interdental space from big chunks which allows the brush to get in there and remove leftovers, and then mouthwash applies a protective film over it all. But maybe it’s all a movie I’m directing in my head
Funny that everyone here has different orders. After consulting a few sources, I settled on: floss (with a water flosser), (infrequent) mouthwash, brush.
Since I’m using a water flosser that’s thoroughly hitting all around my teeth, not just the gaps, it actually does the bulk of the physical gunk removal with not much else to it, so it goes first.
Mouthwash is next but I actually skip it more often than not and haven’t seen negative effects. It turns out that overusing mouthwash can harm the good biome in your mouth, though I imagine if you’re feeding your biome lots of sugar, soda and juices especially, you’ll need to prune it down with mouthwash more often. I drink water almost exclusively.
Brushing basically has to go last if you want the protective fluoride layer to not get washed out. Acting against that though, I know about the advice to not rinse, but that just feels wrong, so I still do a very quick rinse.
Mouthwash not necessary. Statistically flossing first then brushing has cleaner teeth, but functionally dental professionals just want you to be flossing at all so we won’t judge you for flossing after. Spit and leave residual fluoride toothpaste on teeth.
Are you talking about not spitting mouthwash or toothpaste? Either way, you absolutely are supposed to spit. Every toothpaste I’ve ever used has directions not to swallow it.
I feel like they might be confusing their terminology up a bit. Yes to spitting, but you aren’t then supposed to swill your mouth out with water (or mouthwash) afterwards.
Or you can just brush. For me mouthwash is something to use if you’re too tired to stand around brushing or in too much of a rush or need to re-clean your mouth after a snack.
But yeah when I use both I do mouthwash first because slushy liquids are more likely to remove toothpaste on the tooth surface.
i learned a trick, if you have water flosser you can fill it up partially with the mouthwash to help clean better before flossing with the strings. also another side thing, apparently you shouldnt use moutwash excessively as it reduces the good microbiome in your mouth.
the blue one with cpc does help with inflammation, of the gums, also works on canker sores(helps it heal faster, doesnt stop it if its already a fully formed one), and some forms of sore throat.
I started looking up basic stuff after I saw a video of that guy who would shit in his hand in the bathroom and thought that was normal.
Turns out I was brushing my teeth backwards, you’re supposed to use mouthwash, then floss, then brush, and don’t spit.
You shouldn’t be using antiseptic mouthwash all the time
I read it was too make a sterile environment for the micro abrasions from flossing and brushing but idk I’m not a mouth scientist.

What the fuck?!?
The source of my existential crisis
every dentist I have ever gone to in 50 years it’s always been; brush, floss, wash. always spit.
even people I have dated brushed like this.
not saying you’re wrong…but you might want to verify your sources.
Why flossing after brushing? Thats like cleaning the floor then removing dirt and rocks off the bottom of your shoes onto the floor
that’s why I floss then mouthwash. no rinse.
swish for like 2 minutes spit, wipe, and on with my day.
While flossing either eay is far superior to not flossing at all, new studies show flossing before brushing helps the most

Oh, gotcha! Someone else mentioned a similar thing in another comment lower down too, so that makes sense.
