I like to think by the time Kirk gets the enterprise, all those spacious crew quarters we see in Strange New Worlds have been eaten up by retrofits and upgrades.
What is with the fireplaces in SNW? What space shipwrite thinks that naked flame in crew quarters (on a vessel that seems to come back from most missions full of holes) is a good idea?
They just likely just play convincing holograms in those. The logistics of handling wooden logs and dealing with r smoke would be ridiculous enough to begin with.
I hope that’s real and that we get an episode where a geeky crew member turns their’s into a winamp visualizer.
Crew complement went from 203 to 430, so this makes perfect sense.
Those crew quarters fill up quickly when the wars start.
Just look at how full 10 Forward us during the alt timeline Klingon war

“Orange, really? Ugh.”
“Mahogany, really?”
“No, no, the later retrofit where we made it look like it was a set from a 1960s sci-fi show so our enemies wouldn’t know how advanced our tech actually was!”
