Based on my research, the steam deck lcd should be able to wake when a controller connects with it. Yet when I paired and enabled wake on Bluetooth for any of my controller it doesn’t work or connect.

Am I doing something wrong?

The controller I’ve tested are

Xbox One

Xbox Series X

PS4

PS4 V2

All controller have been updated by their respective systems.

The only thing that ever wakes my LCD is the Bluetooth keyboard / mouse dongle plugged into the dock it resides in. If I take the Deck out of the dock and plug it back in I have to turn it on once before it will recognize the keyboard / mouse.

It was enabled shortly after I got mine and I used it a lot, but then they disabled it. Wish they’d made it optional.

An alternative some people do is to use a smart plug to turn power off/on to the deck’s dock (I’m assuming it’s docked if you’re using a controller).

There’s a bios setting to wake up the deck whenever it’s plugged in, so cycling power like that will wake up the deck.

Honestly I’m just going to treat it like my PS2. Just need to put my controller near the deck if I want to use it.

If valve is working on it (which it looks like they are) it’s a matter of if than when

That’s an optimistic take. As a long-time LCD owner I don’t expect this to ever work flawlessly.

My wife is aiming to get a Steam Machine when they become available. This steam deck is taking the place of it until then for me.

It’s no worse then my older consoles and the alternatives from Ayn or Ambernic, and the facts it’s being consider and worked on is a positive.

Another option is to connect a Steam Controller (via its dongle, not via bluetooth). Pressing the controller steama button wakes it up always.

    1. I had both and it worked fine on the OLED but never on the LCD.
    2. It took me way too long to realize that it only wakes it from sleep and not from completely off.

Just be mindful of the xbox controllers as I think it should be very picky about working only with specific versions of the controller, but what version of SteamOS are you on? It’s been on a journey of being enabled and disabled with each update.

You might want to try the beta version
