Fucking social media.
it’s not just social media, it’s economic and social polarization of which social media is one of many factors.
truth is, generally when times are bad, people tend towards more extremist views. when times are good, more moderate viewpoints are more common.
gender quality seemed more reasonable in the 90s and 2000s, but it’s taken a huge dive at the same time economic inequality has exploded and social mobility has plummeted
Also these views are also shared by women, a few studies are showing that young women are far more hostile towards young men than men are towards them, especially among younger generations. it cuts both ways and the affects amplified each other. https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/polling/2026/04/revealed-the-new-radicalism-among-young-women
and you also see a return of the desire for trad gender roles, largely due to economic insecurity in both sexes.
I’m older, but anecdotally, I miss gender interactions from the 2000s, things are way more hostile now even in my own demographic, and most women I meet now have way more traditional expectations than they did even 5 years ago, of me and of themselves. Shit is weird.
Also these views are also shared by women, a few studies are showing that young women are far more hostile towards young men than men are towards them
Maybe cause they’re tired of shitty rapey men
It’s absolutely this. Maybe not all of it, but if young men are watching influencers tell them to basically rape women or they’ll be alone forever and have no friends, of course young women are going to live in fear and act with hostility.
I wonder if any of the people in the study can distinguish between “entitled to sex in a marriage” and “entitled to an expectation of sex in a marriage”
We are often disappointed in life, in our expectations. Disappointment is a terrible reason to demand something you aren’t entitled to. Kids do this shit all the time and we all know we shouldn’t negotiate with terrorists, yet many do when it’s just easier to give them what they want at that moment in time
I often wonder how much of this stuff is driven by Russian and Chinese psyops trying to undermine western societies.
their societies have way worse demographics than western ones.
Hence the need they feel to fuck things up for us.
Let’s not erase our history. This is who we were not so long ago. It’s still who a significant percentage of us are. Our job is to not let them gain power and undo the progress made.
I think those embers are there in every society. The question is if someone is dousing them in gasoline or not.

They surveyed 1,122 young people and 2,307 adults among 28 million people living in australia and concluded this.
Here’s my conclusion: they cheap out with the research and surveyed a small number of people
That’s more than enough for a statistically significant sample.
I wish all the people who harp on about sample size would at least google it first before commenting that they know better than academics whose job this is.
The academics knows too that 3000 people is a small pool to conclude something like this
No, academics know how calculate sample size uncertanties.
If you want to draw conclusions on the ideas of 28 million people i would say you would need to survey at last half of them, projecting the answers of 3000 people to the whole population of australia is a big generalization
I’m sorry but you’re just wrong. Go read up on how this works, you should be able to find lots of sources.
I run a survey and interviewed 10 people on lemmy, i conclude that you are a tankie.
It’s not if you ask me, you cannot project the beliefs of 3000 people into 28 millions
For a binary choice where you expect distribution to be relatively similar you can do it with less than 400 while having 95% confidence and 5% margin of error. That’s just statistics and probability.
Humans are not machines that decide things at random
- We are machines made out of meat.
- It’s irrelevant if the choice was made at random or if it was based on some deep spiritual insight. We’re measuring outcomes, not the rationale.
