        One day, probably. I just liked how Mozilla did things until recently. I’m even pro them moving towards things like VPNs and such.

          Seriously, like, I have a Mozilla account for syncing but holy fuck it only syncs bookmarks. I have to fucking reconfigure every goddamn setting ever time I reinstall my OS or change laptops. It would be so goddamn easy to just send some fucking JSON to a server somewhere but no, they’re coming up with new logos and mascots and AI bullshit. It’s 2026 and I can’t sync my settings.

            I maintain that AI features should have been an optional extension, not a mandatory baked-in feature that could have been accomplished with one.

            Especially because Mozilla isn’t just devoting developer time to it, they have been pushing whole feature updates to these “optional” components inside bugfix releases

      I was getting annoyed when they had a brief period where it seemed like every new feature was AI-related but they’ve calmed down on it a bit, thankfully. Just flip the no-AI toggle and still enjoy everything else they’ve done lately, like better HDR support, YouTube improvements, pdf tools, vertical tabs, containers, etc.

      And sadly, as much as I wish this weren’t true, my 70y old mum I talked into Firefox does kinda make good use both of the translate feature and interestingly of the summarize. With age, she noticed she struggles with long texts, so she has the browser summarize it, checks whether it is what she actually wants to read, then later makes time to read it slowly with breaks.

      That’s just 1 user, I know. Still, it gave me pause. I didn’t think summarize in particular had a real use case.

    It’s just too bad that Firefox is such a hog. Compared to many other browsers with the same use case it easily doubles memory usage, if not even more.

    Edit: I know there’s a lot of Firefox fanboys, and I’m anti Google too, but ever time I try to use Firefox, it’s broken in so many ways. They still haven’t fixed the address bar on Linux after years

    Edit: I had a typo in my post, I meant to say “some things” not “anything”. That’s what I get for typing on a phone.

      No it isn’t.

      They still haven’t fixed the address bar on Linux after years

      …explain? Been using it for years and have never noticed a problem or difference versus Mac/windows/android versions.

      Edit: and no, it doesn’t make me a fanboy to say any of this. I use Firefox every day and cannot really think of any way in which it’s broken, let alone “in so many ways”.

          Seems to be userChrome.css doing that. Which would explain why I have never seen it but I do want to do custom CSS so this may pop up for me too.

                You’re using an unusual desktop environment Hyprland isn’t niche. It used to happen on Gnome wayland as well, but I don’t have any machines with it anymore.

                What do you get for being a pedantic ass arguing people’s lived experiences on the internet? Seriously? Do you seriously feel butt hurt when someone has a bad experience with something you like, so you make it your life mission to attack and invalidate them? It’s sad, just stop.

                  I’m not attacking a lived experience. I’m saying that you’re wrong that Firefox is completely broken. It isn’t. You revealed one thing that is arguably a bug. Instead of understanding that most people never experience that, you choose to spout off and invalidate millions of hours of effort toward a more open Internet. This one thing that literally might not even be a Firefox problem doesn’t mean it’s entirely broken, even if it is 100% a FF bug.

        I just realized now this is the Firefox community, so I deserve my downvotes.

        I tried switching to Firefox several times, but buggy address bar, performance, features, lack of extensions, and dev tools kind of all played into me not using it.

        I’m running Hyprland, and before I was on Gnome (wayland). I’m not doing anything to the browser, I like things vanilla. I just need tab hibernation that works, a page monitor extension (distill), workspaces, and dev tools that work well.
