Anyone else know what’s up with including Framework at the end of the post? That seemed to come out of left field. I checked and nowhere else in the article is it mentioned, so it’s not clear at all what his beef with Framework is.
They sponsor a window manager called Hyprland, which is developed by some aggressively unwoke guy. When dealing with it Framework has blundered, babbling about a big tent instead of publicly asking the guy to stop being an idiot if he wants to keep receiving money.
I suspect people asking to boycot Framework tend to forget that people occasionally need to buy new laptops, and when doing so they have the choice between 1) a repairable laptop developed by a company supporting open source, and 2) a non-repairable laptop lining the pockets of people who are guaranteed to do more evil in the world than whoever develops some fucking Wayland window manager. But this is probably a dangerous take in these parts.
Edit: It seems the Framework also tweeted about Omarchy and some stuff. Not a great look, not sure if it’s boycot worthy either.
There was a bit of controversy when Framework promoted Omarchy and when prompted about it they didn’t respond strongly enough about DHH’s views. They also sponsored Hyprland which has their own controversies and it seems many tie the two projects together since it is the compositor that ships with Omarchy.
‘Hear hear’, ‘word!’ and so on…
Btw. This is just one of the main paths to shape the public opinion/information space. They promote people and projects that align with their future, and hammers away on those that doesn’t. That’s all it takes. Do that 24/7 over years to a lifetime, and they can - and DO - beat activist voices/critique, and shape the opinions on everything from Academia, to Capitalist free market economics, to what human ‘nature’ is, to vilifying every ideological/scientific opponent so they can attack their enemies with no moral repercussions, and everything in between that suits them. Oh, and they own/control basically all western media and control/pay for their favourite 'NGO’s like ‘human rights’ etc, that play into their hands, but really don’t give 2 fcks about…
So, this is not just about enshittification/control of the open source world.
This whole western manipulation scheme is well-known, documented, and is also called “Manufacturing consent”, “The Blue Church” etc, and you CANNOT escape it if you are not aware of it ! Unfortunately, the whole western hemisphere are under the influence of these sswipe pschos misinformation, and quickly goes into a fierce defence of the Epstein Oligarchs, their pet ideological substrate, and the ‘truth’ the oligarchs are disseminating through their own effing media. Did anyone really believe that actual events in the world would pass through oligarch/epstein owned media, and survive ?!? come ooon…
Educate your-self’s on how the Rich man’s dictatorial empire actually works and break out before the Epstein cnts destroy our common future !!
This is just ONE of an ocean of studies/research done on the Merican Epstein empire: Colonization of the Mind -The Means, Roots, and Global Perils of U.S. Cognitive Warfare - By Xinhua Institute. Search and read it without inherited bias. See if you can break out of the Epstein manufactured ‘china-hate’…
can mls never just shit on america without calling for you to suck china’s ass as well
I hate that any stance on one’s ethical position is considered political. It isn’t. It’s just ethics. One would hope the FOSS community would see this false “apolitical” narrative for the bullshit it is. Really bums me out when interesting projects get mired in this.
Bad news buddy. Ethics are politics. If anything politics is the warfare for the implementation of ethics. You can’t be ethical yet unwilling to enforce your ethics, and the only way to do that is to engage in politics. That’s just the only way to influence the behavior of other human beings.
The worse part is that tech culture has failed to understand that all and any technology is part of the conflict to define politics. Whether you like it or not. Anything that involves a person besides yourself is political, because humans are political animals.

I think you might mean “partisan” rather than political. Ethics is always political.
