It would have been so good if it only were to happen in US, but it seems people worldwide are absolute shite and they keep electing this kind.

When liberals keep selling far-right positions back to the masses, why would the masses bother voting for the people who only just started saying those things were issues, when they could listen to the people who’ve been saying it the whole time?

The reason why fascism is capitalism in decline. Capital captured politicians can’t reverse course on policies that increase suffering for the benefit of profit, so they have no answers to the growing problems of profit-seeking without end. Fascists don’t have answers either, but they don’t have to worry about things like reality or political possibility when selling their version of the future. They just agitate, villianize outgroups, and win when liberals/centrists try to repeat their politics in an effort to chase the Overton window.

But later on people who had been alive then had no idea he was like this and voted for him in three different elections.

It’s frustrating but a laaaarge proportion of people who voted for him didn’t pay attention to politics so didn’t know, or care to look it up, and just bought the propaganda that “conservatives good for economy”.

So when they were struggling under a non Republican, they voted that way.

It’s dumb and frustrating, and I know there are plenty of people who do know and don’t care, or support their horrible views… But a decent chunk didn’t

Some of them are all about the actions from who is in power and don’t care about the rest. I’m more referring to the ones who use the excuse “they didn’t know he was like this”. And I’ll admit that there’s some who will say that, then still support him anyway.

It’s almost that if you take them at their word, rather than them being a fool for believing such things, that you are in-fact the fool who believes their ridiculous explanation for why they aren’t a bad person.

Douches gonna douche. As much as we like to point out that he’s a tasteless scumbag, his base already knows this and loves him for it. A lot of people relish the idea of not caring about anything beyond themselves and being able to openly express opinions without any actual knowledge. They respect that he acts the way they want to.

Dutch comedian Arjen Lubach made a preview of what Trump will say happened to him the coming years (spoiler: he’s not done making things up): https://youtu.be/T1amNlMeqbA?t=232.

The first 2,5 minute are in Dutch, as he lists all the things Trump previously said about his whereabouts on 9/11.

Worth noting that it has actual English subtitles, not machine generated, and confirms OP’s post.

Aber dein Niederländisch is sehr gut, ganz toll.

Supposedly he is a bit like Jan Bohnermann, haven’t checked that for myself but that might be a nice way to improve my German. Bohnermann even had a guest appearance in Lubach’s show last week. Lubach joked that Ulrich Siegmund (the leader of the Sachsen-Anhalt AfD) could be a bit by Bohnermann so Lubach calls him mid-show and they talk a bit about the AfD. Had to look it up on YouTube because I didn’t remember his name: https://youtu.be/PuEFQMXJTiM

Thank you, dein Deutsch auch :) I ran my text through a spell checker though since my phone’s autocorrect hates Dutch and sabotages it and while my vocabulary is okay I’m never sure with the long vocals (double ee etc)

Böhmermann is a bit special. He does music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNjG22Gbo6U) and often starts elaborate undercover attacks (or pranks), exposes frauds and scandals and things like that. Not a typical late night show I’d say. He also got in trouble for his pretty vicious attacks on Erdogan. In general I like what he does but it’s quite intense!

Thank you also for this link. I’m on vacation right now and didn’t watch too many German news lately. I was aware of the AfD win but I didn’t want to listen to any of their aggressive bullshit propaganda.

Unfortunately a lot of people like them, even people I know (I live in NRW, right next to the Dutch border). It’s business people who don’t like taxes and bureaucracy, people scared of immigrants and poor uneducated people who think they’re not treated fairly by the government.

It’s very hard to discuss with them. For some reason they always punch downward (immigrants or unemployed people) while they’re dissatisfied with the current government (which is in fact shit). It’s so clear that AfD won’t solve any of their problems. They are incompetent except for propaganda and their whole job, for which they get paid by billionaires, is to destabilize and weaken Europe and Germany.

I hope we’re as resilient as you guys in NL and can handle some right wing parties and then get rid of them if they’re incompetent and won’t turn full Nazi again like in the past… We SHOULD know better

I was there and when I saw Trump being carried out by those two burly firemen, my heart swelled that this great man had been saved, and I said to him, with tears in my eyes, “Sir…” (even THEN he commanded respect) “Sir, thank God you’re alright.” Then I touched the hem of his garment, he nodded, said “Bless you”, and I’ll never forget it.
