Last time I was in that situation was in the Turkish barber. He had a really really thick accent and I struggle parsing the spoken word at the best of times. Out of fear of potentially being viewed racist I just nodded and gave the man a thumbs up, assuming he was probably asking if the job was OK. He came back with a cottonball of kerosene or something, set it on fire and started waving it at my ear. Turns out “ear flame” is a real thing, and what was being offered.
Motherfucker made me anxious sweat, then cast fireball “without warning”, and charged me an extra £8 for my troubles. I will forever rue the day.
He probably made it incomprehensible on purpose lol
This is me with my Chinese colleague. She’s smart af, but I just can’t understand what she’s saying 80% of they time. So I’ve just resorted to doing all communication on slack. 😂
If there’s no convenient window you best have some kind of joke prepared.
I thought that’s where you laugh and say “yeah, totally”
Too much risk of fireball ear.
I’d like to report this post. I am in this picture and I don’t like it.
Let’s play a little game, you text me standing right in front of me. No, no, it will be fun, really. You’ll see.
Been there, didn’t jump.
I can relate to the awkwardness but it’s never been more than just, well, awkward for me. Not remembering somebody’s name after they told me 6 times in as many weeks, that’s where I draw the line.
I resort to attaching them mentally to a video game/tv show character of the same (or rhyming) name, then forever hope i dont accidentally make a reference to that fact or the character they have been assigned in my head.
Oh that’s me in a crowd. I can’t hear well in a room full of people talking, so I taught myself to read lips 😬
Relatable
Ah ADHD roulette
