I’m currently listening to BTR (Bulgarian), Kino (Russian), Luke (French), the pillows (Japanese), Bjornarna (Swedish), Nova Koma (Latvian), Melt-Banana (Japanese), Republika (Polish), Ornatos Violeta (Portuguese), Starshooter (French), Chewie (Scottish), Jufkamental (Bosnian), Kult (Polish), Die Toten Hosen (German), Die Artze (German), and Ska-P (Spanish)!

In my opinion, it’s better to listen to all the best bands from everywhere rather than a mixed bag of American and British ones. Plus, they all have their own unique flavour on top of the traditional rock/punk styles, so it’s fun to listen to them!

What are some of your favourite rock/punk bands outside of the U.S. and England? I would also like to listen to some from outside Europe (I have a few Japanese ones, but that’s about it)

    For punk:

    Da Slyme was a punk band from Newfoundland, Canada. About as raw as you can get. Basically a group of dudes in a basement playing into a shitty mic but it’s pretty good music if you can get past the horrible audio quality. Albums were other older albums with their covers stickered over with their own stickers because they didn’t have the money for an actual production. They had a sort of deal with a used record shop in St John’s NL for that. The shop still exists, I’ve been there a couple times, it’s pretty cool. Lots of history there.

    I’m not affiliated with them at all, I just think they’re a really cool obscure punk band. My dad actually introduced me to their music. I haven’t listened to them in a while, maybe I’ll play some of their music again tonight.

    For other rock:

    The Tea Party (also Canadian) has some really cool stuff too. Sort of a blend of western rock and a bunch of middle eastern influences. They’ve been described as “Moroccan roll” before (play on Morocco and rock ‘n’ roll). Their album Edges of Twilight is by far their best work. Check out Sister Awake from that album for a sample of what they do. That’s their best song imo and a good litmus test to whether you’ll like them or not. They do have some more mainstream sounding music too from later albums but it’s not as good imo.
