Ok so for those of us not fluent in French, could you please translate “La Rôche-Posay” for us so we stop chortling like middle schoolers?
It’s a normal O, no accent. It’s the name of a place, not really translatable. The argument is, prononciation of “posay” is nowhere near to “pussy” if you pronounce it the regular French way.
It’s prononced more like “pause-hay”.
So, pronouncing pussy but in a funny exaggerated way? I’m imaging Turk from scrubs describing what he did over the weekend to JD.
It’s a “O” sound followed by a “Z” sound. So, if you have a really, really weird way of pronouncing “pussy”, I guess.
To be fair, it’s about how I’d imagine inspector Clouseau pronouncing ‘pussy’, so it tracks

So basically, it’s the name of a village, and they have rocks there.
Why do French speakers require non French speakers to speak French? Why do French speakers feel entitled to belittle others for not speaking a cumbersome language of limited use and value, largely irrelevant to the vast majority of earthlings?
Replace “french” with “English” and you know how non-english speakers feel on most of the Internet. The point is, this joke only makes sense if you’re very familiar with English pronunciation (and only some specific accents, I might add) and/or don’t instinctively read the French brand name the French way.
I don’t go to non-English speaking websites and start demanding everybody speak English with me though.
The whole point of the post is to make fun of a French product that has a French name. I’ll even say that, further, they’re (jokingly) accusing the producer of the product of knowingly using a name that sounds ridiculous to English speakers, which is a silly premise to begin with.
I’m not sure what the argument is, but the original comment simply stated that the joke only makes sense if you don’t know French (I also don’t know French, and it took me 5 seconds to find out that “la roche” means the “rock,” so i realized oh they’re making fun of how French sounds. It’s not a particularly funny post).
