I would not recommend doing abstract art. It can be extremely satisfying to create new and interesting things seemingly out of nothing, but most people want to see depictions from the recognizable world. Because of this, it’s tough to sell and if no one wants to buy what you make, the stuff just accumulates and after a while, your unsold artworks can feel like a weight that you’re carrying.

Alternative Operating Systems other than Windows.

Yes most alternatives probably /could/ work but I don’t want to become the tech support for it and I also don’t want to give the trial by fire method. If someone was actually interested in it, chances are they would reach out themselves any time I mentioned about being on Debian, at which case I would help them get started and answer questions but, I’m not about to actively try to persuade people to change.

I don’t recommend anything to anyone. I only say “I really liked it”. There’s no way to tell if someone will like something you recommend.

Lots of foods I like are polarizing.

Having/raising kids. Best thing I ever did in my life. The most satisfying work and they are fantastic grown people. Absolutely loved having a large family. But never have I ever recommended to anyone else that they ought to have them.

And for sure living in Florida. I love the hot weather and the rain in summer, the enormous variety of birds we have, the beautiful land that doesn’t scream it’s beauty like mountains do, it whispers, the closer you look the more beauty you find. And since I’m old enough to remember before it was so politically awful, know that really about half of us are not actually conservative and it’s still nice in the cities. But also know that not everyone is calibrated to enjoy hot weather.

    Driving the Tanami Track.

It is one of the more remote roads in the world. Beautiful in its own way.

Can be 400-500km from emergency services. And 250km from shops. Hot and dusty.

    –

Last year, driving north we saw a couple who had rolled their car, 100km from the nearest town. Very minor injuries, but one with an epilepsy diagnosis.

We were the first vehicle they had seen, in the 2 hours since the time of accident.

Transferred them and belongings to the nearest hospital 350km away.

3d printing. It’s essentially process engineering or manufacturing engineering but hobby level. It will go wrong and you will be frustrated and it will take experimentation and thought to figure it out. (it’s better now than years ago, things have drastically improved.) if you don’t like fiddling with things, don’t do 3d printing. For me? I freaking love it. I love fixing printing mistakes or whatever. Solving problems is wonderful.

    Guns.

I like sport shooting at ranges and the historical context. For instance, I have a non-sporterised Lee-Enfield that was used to shoot Nazis.

However, firearms should only be owned by folks that have the training and level of responsibility to use them safely.

I’m in a committed lifelong relationship that I intend to be faithful in, and I don’t think she wants to do such activities. I’m trying my best to make it happen as much as possible between just the two of us lol. It’s not easy with school and work and two kids.

Ah right. I wouldn’t even know how to find “that scene”. How do you even find anyone that wants to hook up in a group sex situation? Where do you go from square one?

                unfortunately so.

there are some clubs that require routine testing, but even that isn’t 100%. at best you’ll know if you’ve been exposed but zero preventative protection unless you use condoms but that still doesn’t stop things like lice or herpes.

at most clubs it’s possible to be just a voyer, but it’s just not the same as active participation.

so, I abstain. begrudgingly, but disease free.

    vigilantism.

it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself and your community but simultaneously the dumbest most dangerous thing you can do to yourself.

you will be hit, shot at, stabbed, maced, tazed, and chased. all in the name of personal justice that a government refuses to comply with.

your targets will be released. they will not serve time. they will commit crimes again, and I will be there.

    don’t do it.

    Sports cars.

You can get them at reasonable price. But damn, they’re expensive to maintain, and you pay more taxes and insurance on them.

If you can fit in a Miata (and fit your ego into one), that’s all anyone needs from a sports car really. They’re fun on the road and the racetracks are lousy with them. Cheap to buy and maintain. Drive a Miata. Buy a homely one if you have to. Just drive it.

Horses. They’re dangerous and expensive and will take all of your free time. Despite all of that, they’re my passion.

hind quarters the most dangerous area. even cats and dogs, if you high maitenance dog or cat, like husky/GSD dont bother because they are high energy and require lots of grooming professionally if you are unwilling to do it yourself.

for cats, any long haired cats is high maintenance, sphynx is very high maintenance because its hairless and is prone to alot o skin diseases, and extremely annoying to clean because thier oils trap dirt in thier crevices, they are even more high maintenance then long haired cats, also should not be exposed to intense sun light. also exotic breeds like bengals/savannahs are all ill-advised, because of thier wild ancestry you will not be able to control them if you are not experienced.
