I have a, shall we say, pretty adventurous sense of taste (autism gave me the weird taste buds that don’t really get taste stimulation right). I frequently order/make things all my other friends call ‘cursed af’.

But y’know what, the summer that I worked at a cafe and had unlimited time to make my own ‘secret menu items’ was a really fun period of experimentation. Yeah, I found some that were nasty. But a lot were fun and unique.

Don’t be afraid of new things! Unless you’re the other kind of autistic, in which case, it’s totally fine to stay in your comfort zone.

I think the problem is the orange flavor syrup. I’ve met people in my country that add lemon to coffee, but you must like the bitter and sour food to enjoy it.

Fuck yeah! I’ve always been like this, trying new things just for the experience and possible good outcome but never getting mad or wasting anything if it isn’t good. I’ve never understood people who always go for the same thing, need stuff to happen the same way on a schedule etc.
Gotta be clear that I don’t think bad of people like that at all, it’s what they need and all power to them for having that, but I don’t understand it. I go crazy from anything like it, I can’t stand things being the same all the time.
I’d much rather try something new and it not working out than having the same thing over and over.

I’m generally the same. I live in a region of America with a bustling craft beer scene. I don’t think I could try all the different brews around here if I tried.

There are some exceptions. I.e., Heady Topper…I don’t think it’s really all that great of a beer, tbh. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it’s worthy of all the hype that it gets…but damn if that hype doesn’t make me want to order it whenever I see it actually on a menu.

I once mixed mango pulp in beer. It was GLORIOUS. Best drink ever.

Mango lassi with vodka, however, was not the best match. Not bad, but not great either.

Yeah! I definitely went through some shit when I had that beer. Most of that shit being defined by phrases such as: Why did I buy this garbo? Who make this garbo? What were they smoking when they made this garbo? Can I buy an ounce of what they were smoking, because it must be some goooood shit. Also, I need to get the taste of pistachio beer out of my mouth, and smoking on that good stuff will definitely help.

When a tire company can’t sell tires, it makes up a restaurant review system to get people to drive more.

I fuck with this hard. I always pick weird foods when I go to a new restaurant, stuff that I don’t know what I’m getting, and if it’s bad I eat it, if it’s good I eat it.

I live with the consequences, and as a consequence of that, I have found some amazing meals and foods that I never would have eaten if I hadn’t experimented.

my amazing surprise recommendation doesn’t seem that crazy but the summer before last a new ice cream parlor opened up next to my favorite sushi place and i decided i’d get a little treat after my lunch. i had the wild idea of making not a rootbear float nor an orange creamsicle float but a bizarre fruity bastardization float with rainbow sherbet in this locally bottled lime soda. it looked radioactive and tasted like an industrial disaster but, like, in a good way.

Normally at Vietnamese restaurants I’d always get a bahn mi, hard to go wrong with a delicious tasty sandwich, but I decided to try the pho.

Pho is a soup made with raw meat in hot broth. It looked mildly unappetizing when I first got it, but it was one of the best meals I’d ever had in my life.

Maybe it’s more commonplace now, but where I lived, there was only one Vietnamese restaurant in like a 20 mile radius, so it was completely new to me.

Also, Egyptian food, I found a place called kebab in Portland when I was driving through on vacation one year, and I stopped there because they said they serve Egyptian food and I’ve never had Egyptian food. The food I picked was called chicken kusharia.

It was grilled chicken with a tamarind sauce on top of a bed of rice and a slightly crunchy chickpeas. The dish had the aroma of patchouli, which is not something I associate with food.

It was an experience. From the very first bite, it was like I was very present in the moment. Each and every single bite had a new flavor, a new twist to it. There was like lemon juice and lime juice and side salad and one of the best hummus sides I’ve ever had in my life.

If I just stuck with plain, ordinary fast food because I was on vacation, I never would have gotten to experience that.

Not a restaurant but I feel like I’ve tried about everything from the fridge or pantry on a peanut butter sandwich.

Banana fluffernutter is as awesome as it sounds. Pickles are weird but not exactly bad. Jellybeans are kinda good, or maybe I’m weird. Peanut butter pepperoni is surprisingly good. But I especially love savory applications of peanuts (like OMG a good satay) so what you should really try is curry powder and a fried egg with scallions on your PB sandwich.

If I remember correctly most deaths in Japan happen because the deceased went to a restaurant that sells fugu liver which is illegal in Japan.

Also I’ve tried fugu before. It’s expensive and definitely not worth it over regular sushi.

One time hanging out with my dear friend at the mall she said “I wanna go to the cheesecake factory. Its not very good, but sometimes I want bad food, ya know?”

It was in the shopping center and I had never been, so bewildered and curious I agreed. The food was fucking abysmal. I don’t think I’ve ever had worse restaurant food honestly.

My family’s motto growing up was “Eat all mistakes.” It mostly applied to not wasting food, even if you messed it up. So when I baked cookies in the oven after my mom made a roast, but forgot to turn the temperature down and burned the shit out of them, I had to eat them all. Stuff like that. It really taught me to pay more attention, and appreciate when food was good, even if it wasn’t my favorite.

Nowadays I use it for a lot of things - if I decide to watch a show that ends up not being great, I’ll eat my mistake and finish the season before dropping it. If I start a hobby that I end up not being as motivated to do as I initially thought I’d be, I eat my mistake and use up the materials I bought before stopping.

It both gives me an opportunity to make sure I really don’t like something before I give up on it, and also trains me to not dive too deep into something before I know whether I’m going to enjoy it.

I agree with you, but with shows I would say they already eat too much time so I learned to trust my gut, if it is bad after one or two episodes, I will waste my time with something else. Maybe that’s also why in general I avoid shows in recent years. I prefer self-contained content. A series were every episode is its own thing with little or no overarching plot line. Like Columbo series which I love.

Raspberry can work with coffee IF you add cocoa, similarly I would imagine orange would do better with some chocolate as well.
