  • I’m probably going to get downdoots, but I don’t care.

I feel like a lot of the responses here are from people who didn’t read the article.

This is a triage that allows the caller to bypass the ai with a simple no answer.

This is one use of this technology that can actually improve response times, and likely* isn’t being used to cut staff.

See my other comments if you care to know more.

    This is from the article

This is intended to handle the increase of calls that are related to one incident, so callers get automatically routed to an AI agent who asks if they are calling regarding the incident. If the answer is yes, then callers can receive information or updates, and if it’s no, then the callers are transferred to a human.

  • There is though. High profile events cause high volumes of 911 calls. If AI can be used correctly, perhaps even with Geo data, callers likely calling about the same event 400 others are calling about at the same time can get an informational “we know, thank you. But press 1 to talk to a human if still needed”. This allows the humans to help Grandpa having a heart attack across town instead of speed answering dozens of calls about the same fender Bender on the interstate during rush hour.

Just my opinion. Thanks for listening.
