I feel like it encapsulates perfectly what AI isn’t good at. Especially since it hired more humans than a lemonade stand would typically need.

Ahhh, it’s like the “AI run business” which has humans vetting everything it does. Because yeah, let me negotiate my salary with an LLM, please. The only thing holding me back is how much money I can get it to pay me before it turns into fraud.

      Honestly, maybe that would work?

“No, AI boss, you miscalculated. I need at least $1,000,000/yr if I want to buy a home to live in.”

“You’re absolutely right! I appear to have told you the wrong information.”

Tremendous idea. You give a LLM your salary preferences, and it negotiates on your behalf. We can call it something like “Managed Salary Negotiations”.

Don’t worry about minutiae like your employer running the model you’re using for that task. That’s not very Super Earth of you.

Aye. I was being a little facetious, and making a reference to the video game Helldovers in the process, but it does make me wonder what the legal line is when it comes to determining pay by computer.

If a company implements an AI powered monitoring system that reduces your pay because you spent less time at your computer writing code or more time in the bathroom compared to your coworkers, at what point does it start crossing into illegal/discrimination boundaries? A company usually cannot reduce someone’s pay if they disclose a disability and require accommodation, for example, but it is unclear whether that would let them wash their hands of the issue, since the pay was set by computer.
