Nothing in the world seems to help. I spent forever trying to find something to watch, but literally nothing felt good. Even when I eventually put something on it felt empty and I just ended up staring at the wall. I tried playing videos games, some of which I really love, and I turned them all off after a few minutes. I’ve tried other things too. Half the time I don’t even eat. Time passes in slow motion, like some kind of purgatory. The worst is I can’t even sleep. I have the next few days off and they’re going to feel like an eternity. It actually scares me. How do you get through this? I’m desperate.
For what it’s worth, I see a therapist weekly and I’m on a few different medications. This particular bout of sadness is caused by an especially painful rejection.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. The way you’re describing it you may be more towards the situational depression.
Short term you might just have to go through the spin cycle knowing you’ll come out on the other side. Its worth taking time to meditate on your feelings and try to make sense of things.
Long term is a war we can win. The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt is my big recommendation for something to read to understand how. Some big ideas from the book: Happiness is more like a flower that slowly grows when given the right environment. In order of importance its components are Set (your natural level of joy), Voluntary actions ( things that put you in a flow), and Circumstances (Little things like good sleep or quiet). Your set level can be changed by Medication, Medication or Therapy.
I used to have a lot of depression and anxiety to the point where my first therapist told me she can’t help me and I need medication. So I went to this old psychiatrist and he said “We talk now and maybe medications later” The tools I learned from him and the understanding I gained from meditation and uhhhh pizza toppings have completely changed my life. Its unreasonable how happy I generally am and now I work in a very stressful job and I can handle it more than many of my coworkers. Still there have been some devastating events in my life, but they clearup. Good luck out there
I will check that book out! Thank you for the suggestion and kind words.
