I have been experiencing my “voice assistent” thingy on android getting worse because Google is forcing Gemini. It literally cannot process any command. Need to go somewhere but you have no possibility to stop somewhere to type in an address? Well I am shit out of luck now because when I say “[address]” or “navigate to [address]”, I get “I didnt understand that” even though it correctly wrote what I said in the text box at the bottom of the display! Or it fucking hallucinates something I didn’t say!
When I try to search for “voice assistent without AI/LLMs” it only shows me results with AI or AI generated articles! Even when you set the parameter “no ai” you still no results with no ai but only results with AI. Everything is shit because tech bros forcing this shit into every corner of the internet!
Years ago a voice assistant could even understand song names in French that I wanted played on a streaming service and it would play the correct song too. Then it began selecting tunes further down the results list instead of the first result that was correct! Now it doesnt even understand what I am saying!
Does anyone know of a voice assistant tool for android that doesnt use LLMs?
I use it regularly, in offline mode

The old ones were also ai. There is no voice assistant without transformer models, that’s what they are. The old ones were better because they were trained only for that task and Google has gotten lazy, slapping in a model that is way more tuned to helping you summarise emails and product comparisons than actually doing phone related things.
Like under your third dupe comment, LLMs vs AST. The old assistants were rather ASTs than LLMs.
ASTs are transformer models. I never said they were LLMs.
You don’t need that. Use your brain. Type with your keyboard! Write stuff down! Don’t use Speakwrite to be lazy!

When I am driving a car and then next rest stop is 15 km away, then it is convenience to tell a voice to text tool to punch in an address in my on board navigation.
Shit is for android auto mostly.
