After 20 years in the Army, Master Sergeant Amiah Sale’s future hangs in the balance.
The Trump administration has made it a mission to purge all transgender service members from the military, but as the trans military ban makes its way through the courts, some service members, like Sale, are spending their days in limbo.
To be fair, the entire western world has been told to be the wrong kind of ally by US. So it’s at least consistent.
I’m happy that in my country of citizenship trans people are excluded from the army. I don’t wanna get drafted or something.

Fuck anyone who shits on someone who served their country for 20 years. I’m not simping for the military, but public service is still something to be respected IMO.
Winning over the common soldier is an effective an important strategy in war.
Because, as reality would show, the moment people stop giving two craps about you is when you wake up with a primed grenade in your bunk and a pre-written report of your ‘valiant death in the line of duty.’
Or if we’re going old school, 27 stab wounds from the enemy, despite being kilometers away from the front.
Lol I don’t disagree but it’s funny to see the votes on Lemmy. Just yesterday someone was getting upvoted for generalising all SAS veterans because of 1 they met + 2 which made the news. But now we’re talking about a trans woman so suddenly people agree we need to respect people who served
You are simping. What about wasting your taxes to commit war crimes to make the rich richer and keep them in power is serving the public?
If that’s the approach you’re going to take. You are aware that the US has a lot of its economy and position to thank of their global projection of power. The current above global average standards of living in the US is not possible without this mass exploitation of the world.
Which thanks to the orange baboon is falling apart, good luck amigos.
The economy and relative wealth being based on a lot of gunboat politics might be seen as part of the problem by those who can ask “are we the baddies.” No one needs hundreds of bases all around the world for defense.
what “service” is she providing, other than murdering innocent people in the middle east to make your oil cheaper?
-20 votes… 0 reply. don’t expect a rational argument here. The US military has been the world’s biggest polluter entity and biggest contributer to death to humankind in the last century .
Seriously what service or what war was it? She defended her country from vietnam? From Afganistan? Iraq? Iran? Lybia? Syria? Bosnia? Sudan? Yemen? Somalia? Helped stealing Venzula’s oil because they were not on israel side? Helped suffocating and embargoing Cuba with your service? You helped genociding starved enslaved besiged people in Gaza? Helped US imperlism and control of Asia and loot hosting country’s resources? Helped toppling democrasies and installed Cuba’s Batista, Iran’s Shah, Philipine’s Marcos, Eygpt’s Sisi, and tens of nations throughout history that refused to enrich your warlord masters who own weapon manufactorers and oil companies? Helped install puppet pro-israel zionist governments in South America and Middleast? Worked in bases of US-ally dictatorships that kill their protestors with US weapons in the middleast and Africa?
I thank you for your service where or when? You never defended your country from a foreign invasion. You worked for death and launching metals into people’s bodies all while polluting environment and destroying the planet, and helping episten-class get rich from wars.
You know they are about to draw their last anti-trans card now… antisemitism maybe. Here comes my ban. But they will never reply to your question because they can not.
Do you think she was motivated by bloodlust for the innocent and cheap oil, or by a sense of duty?
Can you commend responding to a sense of duty at the same time as criticising what it achieved? I can.
Sense of duty
Fucking, lol. Yeah, the recruiters are definitely looking for people with that.
Look, I understand and share your cynicism about the US military given all it has done. I don’t think, though, that it’s too much to ask that people understand that there can be different, positive attributes shown by its members.
I guess folks aren’t allowed to emotionally grow. What a twisted mindset to to push.
Extremist thinkers cannot accept subtlety of thought.

This scene raises my heart rate so bad. It’s wild knowing that you could show this to some people and have them decide that they want to be in his place.
There’s always a chunk of people who want to be the boot. And a chunk of people who are happy to eat boots if they can be the boot sometimes.
There do exist some people who want that power fantasy, as once the law cease to exist, wield assault rifles as the symbol of their power, feeling they can determine the fate of anyone they capture or run into.
I love this movie so much. Just wanted to say that.
It keeps getting realer and realer.
I avoid watching this film for the same reason that I’ve avoided watching Idiocracy, Don’t Look Up, and Black Mirror; it will just make me suicidally depressed because it’s just getting closer and closer to real life.
Idiocracy has some hope and redemption for humanity.
Don’t Look Up… saw it once, felt more like traumatic horror than dark comedy.
Ever watch Network? It was absurd when it came out. Now it’s normal.
“Whoe to us!”
When my friends and I went to the big march after Renee Good was murdered I had the opening song, Lovefingers by Silver Apples, stuck in my head the whole time. Afterward we went back to my house and watched the movie. The next morning I woke up to the news that they murdered Alex Pretti. It’s a good movie, but I hate how relevant that movie is.
What movie is this?
Civil war. I think it was divisive cause it didn’t really make any political statement. Just showed a take on a modern day civil war.
I loved the vibe of it I think. And the direction of the IRL world feels genuinely represented in this movie. It was a ride. Plus I love everything Kirsten Dunst is in basically.
I loved everything about the movie except Kirsten Dunst. I have nothing against her personally, but in this movie she looked like she was just reciting lines, no acting involved. I know she was supposed to be this tired, jaded character but to me she overdid it and landed on plain boring.
It looks good, but I can’t bring myself to watch it. It’s far too close to today.
Civil War
Well, to my understanding, Hegseth wants extra-Teed up dudes, yes? And she is not an extra-Teed up dude. This is actually gender-affirming.
Bet they’d take a trans dude who’s already on T and give him even more.
I’ve heard some analysis of anti trans types that indicated they’re much more upset about men to women transitioners than the reverse because it’s an open rejection of the more “powerful” role and how dare you reject your privilege like that.
Can’t speak to the veracity of that but it makes sense to me.
yea, rowling was pretty hateful towards MTF, she is silent FTM types. its probably msygoyny in play though. come to think of it, we rarely hear hate/critcism towards FTM, so i think its also pure misogyny.
I don’t think it’s pure misogyny. I think in particular terfs are not motivated by misogyny but by fear. I think there’s also the fact that trans men just tend to pass better.
Please rethink keeping it, transformers is sadly often used as a slur against us.
Also assuming you intended to say ‘men to women transgenders’, that’s not much better. ‘Male to female transgender people’ is respectful however.
Please rethink keeping it, transformers is sadly often used as a slur against us.
Huh. I’ve only ever heard it used by my trans friends positively. That said, I’ll remove it if you find it offensive, wasn’t my intention.
male to female transgenders
That is not what I intended to say, I intended to say “transitioners”. This would be how you refer to people who have transitioned in one word, right?
I used “man” and “woman” since this is also inclusive of people who are only socially gender transitioning. Is this not correct?
On the first point, it’s a bit different if someone is saying it about themselves/their people. And is probably something better kept for in-group chats where that context is known.
Thanks for changing that and I know you didn’t mean any disrespect.
On the second, hmm bit trickier. I could see arguments for/against. I’ve personally never seen that wording used, most people say something like ‘mtf trans’, trans woman, or trans femme which includes more than just trans women but still those who would face such transmisogyny.
On the first point, it’s a bit different if someone is saying it about themselves/their people.
Sure. In the context I experienced it, it didn’t seem like use of the n-word among black folks or something similar, but it’s a) possible I missed that it was and b) obviously, not everyone feels the same in the first place, so just because they liked it doesn’t mean everyone is cool with it. Could also be that at the time I heard it used this hadn’t been picked up by the bigots yet and they since have ruined it, which wouldn’t surprise me, unfortunately…
Either way, noted for future reference, thanks.
On the second, hmm bit trickier. I could see arguments for/against.
My thinking was that while “transgenders” is similar to “blacks” in that it takes a noun and sort of subtly objectifies people, to transition is a verb and so is more akin to saying “swimmers” or “runners”. But I can see how some may see this as reductive. “Trans femme” sounds like it does what I was looking for, though, so may as well use that.
If that’s less openly offensive I’ll keep that as I think this has led to an interesting conversation about language others may be able to learn from as well.
Though again, fair enough on all points and genuinely noted!
“Take me back to the good old days… Back when men were men, and women were men, and the children were men!”
he wants to be surrounded by HIGH-T men, strapping, muscular men.
Yeah, who doesn’t?
Maybe she can flourish into a more helpful person now.
In a weird way it’s really more of a compliment despite it being intended to be actually discriminatory.
