I think I’m an optimist because I think that eventually the various companies are going to have to start turning a profit, and I just don’t see it happening. When the investment money runs out there’s going to be a huge crash. Frivolous pointless stuff like this will drop by the wayside.
What will be left is the useful applications of AI like scientific research and the automation of simple, but non-deterministic tasks that couldn’t previously be automated via a script, such as organising logistical supply chains. But AI isn’t going to replace human labour until they move away from LLM chat bots, and even then it’s just a possibility not an inevitability.
They are not overestimating the response though.
