I love that flavor, though. Licorice candy, aniseed cookies. Sambucca (not alone, too intense. But good in a cocktail). Fennel. Whatever that flavor is called I like it. Mastiha can be good too, I have one by Verino that is lovely.
I love a good, natural mastica made from real tree sap, but a bad anisette or fake chemical mastica or ouzo very much isn’t for me, either. The Turkish Yeni Raki is just running the typical Balkan rakija/rakia/also called raki in Albania, IIRC, bit isn’t the Turkish flavored stuf.
I might have missed it but did nobody mention Raki?
Anise seed flavored…gag…

Now, apricot rakija, that’s where it’s at.
