I had a computer science professor who taught mathematical induction with one example proof. I didn’t get it, so I went to office hours, and she painstakingly went through the same example proof. I didn’t get it.
Then I went to the library on found Donald Knuth’s The Art of Computer Programming. I think it was the very first chapter that did the trick.
“What” sometimes means you didn’t hear and sometimes means you didn’t understand, but you make me guess and yell at me if I guess wrong.
What an idiot. You YELL the explanation, that’s the secret; this works especially well for those who don’t speak the same language.
DO YOU SPEAKO ENGLISH?
Y’all I’m from Australia and I don’t even speak Spanish because it’s not spoken in any neighbouring continent… but it’s que hablas ingles, right?
Close, it would be:
-
(Usted) Habla ingles?
-
(Tu) Hablas inglés ?
No need for the que
-
Yo soy el Grande Smokio
If that language is Spanish, you add “o” at the end of every word.
And in Japanese you add the o in the middle: Sand-o-wich
Now this is vintage. I miss memes like this and rage comics.
Stirring coffee like a pestle and mortar, (this is fine meme)
You did not hear? Let Me say something completely different
Oh, you must be missing the basics. So let me explain the most obvious shit, but only till I get to my previous point, without repeating it, of course
I get this with people who don’t understand “say it slower and more clearly.” Then they say it with the same volume and still mumble.
I had a clearance delivery controller do this to me:
“Cessna 123AB, cleared to Somewhereton Regional as filed, Runway 5 MUNCH departure, climb and maintain 5,000 feet, expect 9,000 feet in 10 minutes, contact Exampleville departure 122.9, squawk hubbajubba.”
“Exampleville clearance, Cessna 3AB, could you repeat the squawk code?”
“Cessna 123AB, cleared to Somewhereton Regional as filed, Runway 5 MUNCH departure, climb and maintain 5,000 feet, expect 9,000 feet in 10 minutes, contact Exampleville departure 122.9, squawk hubbajubba.”
“Exampleville clearance, 3AB, I still didn’t catch the squawk code. REPEAT THE SQUAWK CODE.”
“Cessna 123AB, cleared to Somewhereton Regional as filed, Runway 5 MUNCH departure, climb and maintain 5,000 feet, expect 9,000 feet in 10 minutes, contact Exampleville departure 122.9, squawk hubbajubba.”
“Exampleville clearance, 3AB, cleared to somewhereton as filed, MUCH departure, maintain 5,000 feet expect 9,000 in one zero minutes, call departure on 122.9, squawk 4422?”
“3AB, readback correct, call ground point niner.”
… 😤
Oh wow, that sounds frustrating. Jesus Christ, you’re think the ground controller would know better with all the cutting in and out.
There may be some policy that they have to give the entire clearance in one shot, but ffs show at least a crustacean’s level of self-awareness.
One of my biggest pet peeves that sets me off a little every time is when I saw “what” and they say it again at the same volume and speed.
Then I glare at them for two seconds, and loudly and slowly say “WWWHHHAAAAAATTT?” and they act affronted for having to repeat themselves again.
I raise you same volume and speed but bigger distance (they walked to the fridge or decided to grab something quick)
I just say I can’t hear them
I get this a lot with other languages, but especially Spanish. I sound like I’m fluent, but I can’t understand it when spoken back to me for shit
Same with Swedish, although depending on the accent, I can hear some clearer that others.
Let me go over this trivial math topic so many times that you lose the ability to learn math before proceeding to a much more difficult concept
Hi me, its you!
…but, louder.
…and slower.
Yes daddy.

Why are we as lemmings like that!?
Only sleep now
Looks like I am going in a different costume this year.
BWAAAAHHHHH
“Look, I don’t get it myself, and I’ve got 50 other kids with rivers of lead flowing through their veins that I have to deal with. You’re just going to have to take the L on this one.”
Wouldn’t happen to me. I’d simply understand better.
But louder this time!
