They are not offended about being called out. They are offended about not getting the money.
Just like people receiving the religious version of this. Who cares what those nuts think but fuck them for using fake money to get attention to the stupid shit they say.
Since we seem to have a bunch of former servers hanging around here, anyone ever have to deal with an Amway meeting?
Those were the worst. 20 people wearing suits and showing off their expensive gadgets and phones. Everyone orders water and the cheapest thing on the menu. Separate checks, and MAYBE a couple of bucks on the table after they’ve ran your ass off with refills on freebies.
Just a bunch of tools trying to create the appearance of wealth, when in reality they can barely even afford a meal out.
More of this please.
Nah, they commonly know evolution is true, just refuses to admit… they are angry coz someone dare to not give them money. Fuckin greedy pigs.
Just for anyone who may be out of the loop, this is a parody of a real story where someone left a fake tip for waitstaff that was just a religious pamphlet.
Edit: replaced with archive link
Those fake tips were very common when I served in restaurants.
It’s not just a single story, I think this is relatively common.
I worked as a server for 5 years and I received at least 2 of these fake bills as a tip.
I’m guessing this behavior is somewhat regional; my experience was in the deeply religious midwestern usa.
Its cult behavior.
Surreptitious proselytizing?
Cult behavior.
They’re just in the cult, so they don’t see it that way, because their brains are tied up in pretzels of cognitive dissonance.
Do the equivalent to them, in a different flavor?
Much howling and gnashing of teeth.
Nope, mine was up north and I got way more than that.
Oh yeah. I used to get 2 or 3 of those every Sunday afternoon. I got used to it and eventually didn’t mind as long as they left some real money with it, but the first time you think you’re getting $20 and it’s just a piece of garbage is a real disappointment.
Do they really think someone’s going to want to join their church after getting jerked around like that?
They probably think they are giving you real money. A lot of these folks are prosperity gospel cretins that think God financially rewards the faithful. From their perspective, if they succeed in converting you, they may be giving you a tip worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s twisted.
I’ve never had them leave real money with it.
Yeah, there’s no excuse for that. Those people are just assholes.
They’re jerking themselves off. This way they can feel like they’re doing God’s work, and they can afford to do it all the time.
Well, yah. This is like why the Nigerian Princes put spelling mistakes in their phishing emails. You don’t want to hook the smart ones.
Did you go to church and put it into the collection plate?
After all, Matthew, Mark, Luke and even Thomas all confirm Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and unto God that which is God’s.”
These people are playing at being God, and deserve their play money back.
Yup, I’ve been tipped these more than once before
Growing up evangelical I saw it all the time. Very regular occurrence
I even got one of them in germany
In Germany it would simply be amusing and mildly obnoxious, because German waitstaff get paid a living wage and tips are not expected at all. Also, Americans tend to be the only ones who tip.
Sorry that happened, though can’t say I’m surprised to hear it happens more frequently than that one-off example. I feel like it must be common anywhere there’s an intersection between low economic opportunity and sanctimonious Christian smugness.
They probably think it’s like a cheat code to avoid paying while still somehow earning more good boy points with god.
(Not to say I’m a fan of tip culture either, but that’s how waitstaff get paid in the US, and stiffing one person on a tip isn’t going to change that.)

Thank you for adding that part.
Yes, the system is bullshit, but it’s nobody’s place to decide that their server should work for free because you want to protest.
I’ll support change, but until then, tip your servers well. It’s a hard job, and they deserve much more respect than most people give them.
If possible, rather than add it to the credit card, tip in cash. Real cash. Safe from wage theft especially if you hand it to them directly.
And the Midwest isn’t even the real deep religious area of the US.
It is more than you think, but still less churches than bars.
If you want to see the real holy spirit, you have to order it in a bar and not wait for it in a church.
It’s not more than I think. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life. Compared to Tennessee it’s nothing.
Sure, but thats mostly because we just have an absurd number of bars. Basically everyone has or had a drinking problem, largely because theres not much to do that doesn’t involve alcohol.
We hired a contractor to fix our roof and he left one in each bathroom stall.
I… Simply dont understand
Demand that he return to remove his litter before you pay the invoice.
But you’ve got just the thing to pay it!
Touché
I’ve seen lots of religious people leave pamphlets, but they’ve also always left tips. Usually good tips as a way to sell that they’re nice and care about you.
If they were nice they wouldn’t trick you.
So if they give bad tips they’re assholes, and if they give good tips they’re deceitful?
Have you considered that some of them may be kind people trying to share their faith in the sincere belief it will benefit you? You may not be in the least interested in their faith and actively think it causes more harm than good, but that doesn’t make all its adherents evil.
You do realize this in the context of people leaving religious propaganda that initially looks like money, thus tricking the waitstaff.
Most outrageous thing to me as an non-American is, how his boss is allowed to pay him $3 an hour for doing the job.
Then there’s that umm… little healthcare insurance matter.
If they are not American, there’s no way they’ll ever be able to comprehend THAT.
Well…it’s not that hard to understand.

You’ll be with the Lord so that’s OK.
(is the attitude)
It’s the greater of $2.13/hr + tips OR minimum wage per hour. So if you filled in for 1 slow hour at a dinor, sold a cup of coffee and only pulled $1.87 in as a tip you aren’t getting paid $4 ($2.13 + $1.87). You get at least minimum wage.
Minimum wage varies by state (or City) from $7.25 to $21.65 per hour.
Typically, the City’s with high minimum wages also stipulate it to be the minimum rate before tips.No. It’s over a pay period and you will not get scheduled if you go this route as a server.
And you expect the boss to actually make up the difference. There’s a reason wage theft is so common in the US.
Fascinating. Do people also write down the amount of tips received each hour? To make sure the boss pays for the slow hour, and it doesn’t end up coming out of your own pocket anyways, from the other more busy hour? I can’t believe Americans are doing that amount of maths?
When I was a pizza delivery boy, I just did the cashing-up once a day. The cash register would know how much of the money in my pocket was owed to the boss, and I got to keep the change. Only time maths was involved was when the delivery cars broke down (which they did all the time) and I had to use my own car and the boss had to compensate me for using my own car.
It’s average over whole shift, not hour-by-hour.
A whole pay period not shift.
Guess they’re mostly not paying up, then. That’s just deducting the difference from the rest of the tip jar until there’s nothing left from a given day. And only then are they forced to chip in?!
Those cities also tend to be governed by mostly Democrats while the ones under the thumb of the GOP are very happy watching people try to survive on $7.25
That happened to me as a bartender 10 or so years ago.
Just one real story? This happens thousands of times around the country, every Sunday afternoon.
That’s not about evolution…
I thought it was a joke about the evolution of the $20 bill. That bill had to be printed pre-98’
the headline said it was.
The whole thing is a joke. It’s not a real article.
Hello, based department? I have a new hire for you.
But, then I’d need to go into a church.
I’m 60 years old and I’ve been inside a church three times. All when I was a kid, all against my will.
I thank god every day that my parents raised me atheist.
I thank god every day that my parents raised me atheist.
I see what you did there.
Same here, only been to church less than a hand full of times. The first time was when I smoked weed for the first time too.
I love how the most hypocritical thing you can do is force others to follow your ideologies.
That’s only hypocritical if your ideology is against forcing others.
Top comment says it is a parody but ye.
atheist has infiltrated sanctity of the church
Idk why I find this more funny than the actual story
I gave the director of the last church band I was a part of a bit of an existential crisis when I told him I was pagan.
I rarely meet people from my Christian days, but if I mentioned I’m pagan myself, I fear it could cause them all to mobilize to “save me”.
That and the fact it’d probably give my mom a heart attack, she has tough enough time to process just the fact I’m not Christian anymore.
In a similar vein I had one of those street preachers give me this stack of $1 millions that’s just a bible

I can’t imagine an atheist wasting so much time doing this.
I got nothing else to do on a Sunday morning. 🤷♂️
Try going to Bedside Baptist.
Let Pastor Pillow guide your meditation.
Bilxing?
Bilking. It’s like milking but with stewed beef.
Stop, you’re starting to turn me on!
Where can one buy these?
Back in the day we used to scan twenty dollar bills just to fuck with friends. Can’t do that anymore. It’ll dial up the secret service before you can open the file!
