Yet another right wing influencer out there just raping. God they just love rape so much and it’s so unbelievably consistent. I wonder how many girls he hurt before he got reported. Furthermore, will this go anywhere? The Tate’s still haven’t been sentenced and Trump and his cronies also haven’t and won’t see justice.

Article about a young woman getting raped, Lemmyites respond by making it about the thing they care about more. Yeah, we all know that the manosphere is closely related to the fascist cultural moment we’re in, but you know that isn’t what you were referring to.

Have some respect for fuck’s sake.

Edit: and of course, as is usual on Lemmy, you guys get pissed if you aren’t pat on the back for having the bare minimum sense of morality (allegedly) and being told that it isn’t enough. You aren’t special for thinking rapists and pedos are bad, and you’re bad for thinking you’re enough with that alone. You guys know that you can see profiles of people who downvote, right? I can see that it’s a bunch of middle-aged men pissed at this.

What is offensive about this, in your opinion?

It doesn’t trivialize, or even speak on, who this guy raped. If you believe all conversation should be about the victim, that is one thing. Although some victims might not want their trauma the center of conversation.

What you say isn’t what they are referring to is the only relation I’m seeing. What else would they be talking about?

Rape culture is a setting, as described by some sociological theories, in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to that setting’s attitudes about gender and sexuality. Behaviors commonly associated with rape culture include victim blaming, slut-shaming, sexual objectification, trivialization of rape, denial of widespread rape, refusal to acknowledge the harm caused by sexual violence, or some combination of these.

I don’t see how their comment would be described as any of these. Perhaps one could read the joke as listing “rape” as a some simple, necessary credential for politics and, in doing so, trivializing rape.

However, the subject of the joke isn’t the rape nor the victim, but the rapist Clavicular and the administration, referencing how many of the current administration have sexual assault accusations against them. The joke doesn’t downsize what he did or apologize for it.

I am genuinely not seeing how that bolsters or perpetuates rape culture.

Edit: and you just tried to insult me instead of answering my question about what you meant by this

Yeah, we all know that the manosphere is closely related to the fascist cultural moment we’re in, but you know that isn’t what you were referring to.

I wouldn’t bother. This person is likely foaming-at-the-mouth levels of angry and unwell, and appears to be having an argument with themselves that they’ve plucked out of thin air.

I would bet they simply misinterpreted things and thought this was a “ha ha rapist will be raped” thing. But that’s what happens when you go through life with conclusions and work backwards…you get it wrong a lot.

Oh no guys, we better think twice before downvoting this borderline nonsensical comment.

Calling the Trump administration the rape administration is not a joke about rape, it’s literal reality.

        Edit:

Wait, they didn’t call it the rape administration, they said “pedo.” Also true. All the comment you replied to did was point out the reality that the current US administration is full of literal rapists.

That’s not a rape joke. There’s no joke at the expense of any victim here. You’re losing your mind, bud. Take a breath.

Don’t know, you sound more like a mix of a ten and a seven to me…

(Also, 3 isn’t buffoonish, he’s just a bad father, victim of a poor education, unwilling to admit to himself that he regrets the way he treated his son; tragic, angry, sad, but definitely not buffoonish.

And anyone who calls the flip-flopping milquetoast #12 “unbothered and collected” has clearly not seen the film.

8, 1, 9, or even 4 would be much better options for the second picture, and, again, maybe 10 or 7 for the first one.

At least watch the film before you go making ill-informed memes about it; it’s a timeless classic for a reason.)

How does this promote rape culture? Why did you resort to strange ad hominem rather than just answering the person’s simple question. You’re so mad, it should be very easy to explain why.

                And yet…

      • You know, Facial Feminization Surgery (a type of gender affirming surgery) is not that different, it’s just done under medical supervision. Someone should tell him that’s an option

In true gender affirming surgery fashion though, he should be required to get a psych screening, at least two therapist letters, insurance pre-approval, a letter of recommendation from his primary of at least 1 year, an endocrinologist letter, his SAT scores, and have a bank loan before he’s even considered for it

A person doesn’t even have to admit going to therapy, just go to one. I’m aware it’s not possible for many due to financial constraints, but for those who could afford, what’s their excuse?

Step 0 of going to therapy is realizing there is a problem that you are in need of assistance solving. Men are brought up thinking they are owed the world and everything wrong with them is just something they need to push down, push through, or be aggressive about.

“bottommaxxing,” is referring to male rape in prison. This person is using the looksmaxing language to make a joke about Clavicular getting raped in prison, because they think it’s funny that people get raped in prison. They’re making that joke under an article that describes the experiences of a young woman who was apparently raped by Clavicular, so they though this would be a good setting to make that joke because they did not even consider if it would be bad to undermine the severity of sexual violence for their funny haha joke about how the right people deserve to get raped.

A joke in poor taste no doubt. Call me crazy but I don’t think anybody “deserves” to get raped/killed. I don’t care what this guy did, it doesn’t justify doing unto them evil. Too many vindictive people out there conflate revenge and spite with justice. And to be fair, a case like this has no justice. The best you can do is lock the fucker up so he cannot harm anybody else, and do what u can to help the victim recover.

I do think it is interesting that your response to this was more in empathy with the rapists than it was the undermining the severity of sexual violence and ridiculing victims, and then went on to not even consider what the victim would want as justice.

No, people don’t deserve to get raped, but it is important to remember that they aren’t, this joke references the fact that rape happens in prison, not about whether it ought to be a punishment; I made the addition that it was for “the right people,” because I know that’s how they’d try to defend it. The real problem is, yes, that this belittles sexual violence and therefore trivializes the harm done to the victims; which is why men use jokes like this and why they think about the rapists before they do the victims.
